Swung thru Tacoma real quick to see if anything was happening... Nope, all quiet. Couple of MP15AC's chillin... And some other power in the shadow of Mount Rainier.
Swung thru Tacoma today and seen GP40's resting between jobs.. They always manage to keep they're locomotives clean somehow!
Very cool to see these bright schemes! Even better to see cabeese in 2022 with windows intact!!! And here it was 12 years ago, almost to the day:
Found my two fav TR locos yesterday! The 3000 is actually an SD40-2 internally, even though it looks to be an older SD40. The 3001 is just an SD40 internally, with a 16 cylinder engine. Love that they kept the flaired radiator though!
Drove thru T-town yesterday and found some various Tacoma Rail units working! Seems TR is using MP15AC/GP40 combo's in the yards lately... Looks recently washed!
Interesting how they call the 3001 an SD40-2. Must have been completely gutted and rebuilt with a 16-645E?
Business end.. That's the TR shops in the distance on the right, they service BNSF and UP locos here, as well as they're own.
Tacoma today! Looks like Tacoma Rail is getting rid of the 3000/3001, my favorite locomotives they own! Nooooo! See how the name is gone off the units? Bummer Sad to see them go.
Found some of the smaller Geeps though, mulling around next to Milwaukee Way. And a couple in the maintenance shed...
...and yes, Milwaukee Way is named after the Milwaukee Road. The road in Tacoma went right past the yard and The newer passenger station they built. It's all gone now though, nothing but a huge parking lot for container storage.
No, tried researching any news, nothing yet.... Somebody will pick them up, they were fully rebuilt to -2 specs not that long ago, and they are very meticulous about servicing and maintenance.
Thats too bad, I like the paint jobs on these units, very bright. I wonder if they are getting sold for some sort of Tier standards on something.
With the changes I have heard about, for their serving customers up Tacoma Hill, is this what has made the units surplus?
Probably, no need for the bigger power now for the "Gulch" climb up that 3% now. The SD70ACe's are still there, for now....
