I would wonder if these are surplus items. In such a condition, I want to believe they'd be very difficult to load, simply rolling onto those cars. Craned on? If otherwise, I am thinking possibly vandalism.
We used to get DODX cars like this all the time used to drive us nuts. Equipment not secured right doors would fly open and set off high wide detectors. This equipment was headed to a rebuild center somewhere and we're loaded with flat tires without door latches it was kind of sad.
Freshly painted ROCK 532072 carries freight and a new image for its owner at Barrington, IL, as seen in the mid 1970s. The stencil reads WHEN EMPTY RETURN TO AGENT THE ROCK OTTAWA IL. The placard stapled on the car end reads GLASS. I can't read the builder's date.
Saw this on the CPKC in Pearl MS today (04/05/2024). Never seen an 686ft boxcar painted in this CN/ICG scheme. This would make a cool model
Just some randomness from around Minot in the last 6 months. I see lots of these with UCRY markings, too. Brilliant white... On an eastbound at Soo Tower. A trio of these fresh cars in the same train as the log car.
Sort of a ghostlike color scheme. And a big cool car to model! Maybe the ghost of ICG is coming back from the grave to haunt them!
From almost exactly 31 years ago on 04/23/1993 at Montgomery, AL, MP 794788. Built 01/1982, insulated.
Me and the wife came over to California in 1998 to see Mom and Dad, They had moved to the USA in the early 1980s and it was Angies' first visit to the US Dad decided we should all pile into the Lincoln Continental Mk IV and have a few days in San Fransisco and Sacramento. Frisco O.K but didn't get much rail action as we headed into Sacramento I said " can you stop the car please, I've just spotted something" CNW 612706 I have no idea what sort of cars they are (and information about them would be warmly received) Dad was a well known railroad photographer back in England in the late 1950/60s but shooting Black and white, 120 Roll film, at the price it was, would never have taken photos of freight cars so he sat in the car with the wife and mom while I wandered around the sidings CNW 163031 Missouri Pacific 367084 CNW 161567 Another view of CNW 161567 I'll post some pictures from Haywards Lumber at Goleta in a couple of days Regards Kev
These are great. Love the Chicago & North Western boxcars especially. Looking forward to seeing what else you found.
From about 1975 at Barrington, IL, Pacific Great Eastern 40220, built 10/1971 with a plug door and a slider.
So I have started to look through my very limited photos I have taken of USA freight stock and remembered I had done a few shots at Devore in California in May 1998 First one I opened made me realise I had missed something obvious. A boxcar 'tagged'on the inside. I'm looking at my Z scale 50ft Montana Rail Link and thinking " Hmmmm" GVSR 77102? ,Door covering the last digit, at the foot of Cajon Pass For CNW fans Kev
I love Centrebeams , We don't have anything like them in the u.K and when I built 'Shasta' my Z gauge SP exhibition layout I made sure I had some of Robert Rays's 60ft and 73 ft kits prominent in the consists Haywards Lumber in Goleta Ca, where Mom and Dad lived usually had something worth photographing. Their premises are just up from the Goleta Amtrak depot TTZX 863662 2018.01.15 I always preferrred the 'Opera window' ones TTZX 83705 at Haywards lumber 1998/04/30 Back at Devore after Breakfast at Joe's country cafe in 1998 Washington Central WCRC 9228 heads up Cajon Pass First of May 1998 Also in the consist was TTZX 802228 Winding roll film on after taking picture, Remember those day?
