I just finished building the Walthers roundhouse and am ready to install track in the bays, but I'm a little unsure about what to use to "glue" the track in place and how to go about attaching wiring. For anyone who has already accomplished this, what tips might one offer to accomplish this task? TIA! :tb-smile:
That's about what I did. On some stalls I soldered second leads to the bottom of the tracks inside the roundhouse.
Wiring lead tracks would be easier ... somehow I had the thought that the wire leads had to be attached to the stall tracks. Also what did you use to hold the tracks in place during installation? Just regular modeling glue; or something like contact cement? :tb-wacky:
Contact cement is too fast and permanent, if you misalign the track, it will be hell to remove it. I would use construction adhesive, align the track, aka the bridge, place a bead of construction adhesive, (grabit will work) flatten it out with spatula, lay track aligning the rail ends to bridge. I soldered the leads on the end of the tracks,so with my soldering skills they make a natural wheel stop,heh heh.I assembled my roundhouse on a base,so I drilled holes and dropped the wires through.I used solid rather than stranded wire,and found pleasantly that this helps hold the track in place.I used the aforementioned white glue with good results.I used and atlas turntable with it so some fudging of lead lenghths had to be worked out.I wired mine so each stall can be turned on/off,and used a pushbutton contact for the turntable itself.I can then pull the engine on the turntable,release the button,rotate the turntable,press again and onto the lead we go.Keeps me from overshooting the turntable.
Don't forget to show us some assembly pictures while you're building it!! I've got a few sitting around for me to get motivated to build :embarrassed:... and could use some pointers... with pictures.

Thanks for the pix!!! Did the parts fit together properly on this kit? Some Walthers kits are not very forgiving... in fact... in some cases modelers have claimed Walthers should ask forgiveness from us
Joe This was my first Walthers kit. Oh I did find I needed to trim a bit of the plastic that was left over after I CUT THE PARTS FROM THE SPRUE'S. I did find they fit very well together, I took my time and did it over a few days. I was told by who I cannot remember that the cornerstone kits fit much better together than earlier Walthers kits like the blast furnace which is a monster that I have never finished. Overall, I was quite pleased with the results.
