Is CSX repowering their CW60AC's with the GEVO-16 motors? I have just seen intermettent reports on this. Where can I find out more information? Unit numbers, actual engine used, dates of repower, etc... Thanks for any information in advance!
Trains "Locomotive 2009" mag. pg.18 "All 117 units are trading in their HDL's for new 6000-hp Evolution Series GEVO-16 engines and the latest control systems".
Looks like 600-602 got FDL engines and 603-699,5000-5016 got the GEVO-16. Since 600-602 were the preproduction units it looks like GE is not converting those.
I caught # 601 recently... it was labeled as a CW44AC and displays the standard, single fat exhaust stack that C44's have: CSX 601 heads towards the yard on train Q477-12
I remember about 5+ years ago, many of the CW60's were derated to "CW44-6's". Anyone else remember that?
That was a software change to the CW-60's that was later changed back to 6K output. It is amazing what computers can do with fuel mapping and adjusting horsepower output.
Well I am just glad that they're still around. I like the "covered rear porch" that the huge radiators make.
I just uploaded a ton of CW60AC photos here: Viewing Album: CSX CW60AC's - Railroad Picture Archives.NET Harold
