What are your plans for Bachmann's new tenwheeler?

Hey, everyone. I know this is going to be a highly anticipated engine, as even I plan to get one. So I was wondering, do you plan on having any special projects for these engines? Here's mine: SD&AE #27.

:thumbs_up:I likewhat you have planned for the ten wheeler. Since the prototype Bachmann used for the model is a CNW (Omaha) Class K-1 (I asked them at NMRA in July) that was a later rebuild with a bigger tender (I suppose for the decoder), it can be adapted to any ten wheeler w/ 63" drivers

In addition to just being happy with how they are I will be looking into swapping boilers (possibly with the MP 2-6-0/4-4-0) and using the Bachmann boiler on a 2-8-0 chassis. And, if the 2-8-0 is successful, I will also be trying to build a 0-8-0 to represent a Consol. that was rebuilt as a switcher, which some roads did instead of buying 0-8-0s new. The Santa Fe had some really interesting rebuilds... they didn't even try to match the second sand dome added with the original two domes.

that is a easy one, give it Number boards, change to the Bachmann short tender, remove the slide valve gear and go to that weird inward slanted piston valve NP loved, Stephenson valve gear, Moderize quite a bit, and Voila! Northern Pacific!!

I'd love to see that when you do it. I should check to see if SP&S ever got any old NP 4-6-0s.

I intend to admire it from afar. Looks really cool.

They did but I forget which class they were on the SP&S. Almost all of the GN Belpaire firebox ones were taken up in the later conversion to 4-6-2, however a number of the ex NP locos were on the roster along with a few from other absorbed lines up into the late 1940s.

So finally I have a loco that I do not have to think about grafting a Belpaire onto and instead just add an oil bunk to the tender

    I dunno..

This is the first steamer that has gotten my attention in several years.

I can envision this engine pulling some freight cars with a combine.

For me that would mean a era change and a loop layout instead of a industrial switching layout.

Maybe a 2-8-0 for heavier train?

Of course that tender has to go.

I wonder if it will have a working coupler on the front?

To tell the truth I would have preferred Bachmann to bring out a PRR K4 Pacific rather than the ten wheeler. But who knows, maybe in 2011 or 2012.

Preproduction photos show Bachmann's dummy knuckle (the one compatable with MT couplers and whatnot) but I think there is hope for EZ-mates...

My plans are just to purchase one, no mods, just run it. I would like to see the
Drive Rods/Arms to be Black, not Gold or Silver. Black it ALL out.

I would have liked an updated Spectrum version of the ATSF 4-8-4 but there you go. maybe 2013.

I think that we should have a positive outlook for Bachmann's future N steam

program. I too would like to see the Spectrum label joined to the Northern, a Pacific, Mike,

K4 and others from them. Their current efforts are probably aimed at bringing DCC/DC on

board the Mountain types just as they have done with the new Consolidated. They're on

the right track with the new 10 Wheel. Let's watch Bachmann with optimism.

The rods are not gold. That was a very early pre-production shot. Here is a shot of the Southern version that was at Trainfest I believe.

The first one gets discected for the review for the NTrak Steam handbook. After I put it back together, there are a couple B&O Ten Wheelers that come fairly close. The tender will be removed and a short tender and Digitrax decoder installed. Haven't looked at the final details to see how much I need to modify the loco. I will decide from there how many to modify.

I just went by the picture and in the picture they are Gold. Kind of seemed odd to me. Unless the picture stated "this is a Pre-Production version" then there is no way to know how it would be mass produced. The picture with the gold rods was the only pic I saw. Oh well, anyways, I still vote for Black all over, thanks !

Two for the good old NP, mainly for my Tacoma Division layout. I can't wait!

    Cheers:

Does anyone know when these are finally coming out? I've heard November, then December, then Christmas and now maybe January...

**sigh**... It's like 2004 all over again...

I don't know if I will be getting one of these. The only road I model for which it would be suitable is my fictional shortline, but I already have a full roster. However, if the 4-6-0's are ever heavily discounted, I'll probably pick one up, in which case I will change out the tender for a Spectrum slope back tender with an MP 4-4-0/2-6-0 tender shell. The latter fits almost perfectly on the Spectrum tender chassis.

If I get one, it will be another loco for my logging line.
