Nice model , I guess. Just doesn't have the character of a J class steamer.....
Also....had to laugh when I saw the picture,It just looks too much like a certain male appendage :D ......Mike

PS I would probably have to be hitting the wine pretty hard to get that one...No offence to the Grey One :)

Branching off of the product announcement a bit..

...but why can't we get Amtrak to advertise like this!!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbG5BakWBOY

Run an Amtrak commercial like that to introduce the US High-speed line I'm sure you'll see popularity/support for the project go crazy!

Would love to see one of those flash past my window at speed. The Acela just does not cut it.

Steve, I think you have reached the point where you must decide between track to run trains or cabinets to store trains. Sadly, I don't believe the resources (or support from Grandure Lady) are available for both at this point in your current state of affairs....n'est ce pas?.

You're started down the right path.

When it came time that I needed a DSLR for school, I took an inventory of everything I owned that I never touched in over a year. I did some basic pricing research on eBay and Amazon to see what others are getting for these used items and put that into a spread sheet. I was able to come up with more than enough in "collateral" and now it's as easy (or hard) as getting those old unused items sold.

Find a plan, make it solid, and get it done. You'll have both train and track in no time. :D :D

Well, Mark, yes, I should follow through on that.

Anyone know where to get rid of 25yo unpainted lead miniatures? Board games?

You know what's missing? Yes, the E5 Hayabusa!!

I tried getting one from a hobby shop in Japan, but they sold out. (They originally released a few weeks ago.) Now I just have to visit the LHS tomorrow to reserve one, and save a ton on shipping.

Awesome train Steve! Kato matched the color pretty dang good on this one! :) I have always loved 'super-sonic' trains! :)
I say get the train now and the track later. ;)

In a twist of fate the real thing entered revenue service a week before the earthquake struck the middle portion of the route, but in typical Japanese fashion through services are scheduled recommence by the end of this month.

Um, ya, that's a done deal. It will look great:
Hiawatha - 4-4-0 Streamlined passenger service
    Hayabusa - Streamlined passenger service
    Works for me. :)
Now, if they could only issue the "train set" in Great Northern "Empire Builder" colors. Oooops. Forgot, this is Kato, not Con Cor.

Bonus: I have recently learned Laura, (Grandure Lady), really likes my passenger trains the most, (sigh, even more than my "Red Ribbon" CP unit coal trains). She was delighted with the developments in the passenger terminal on the layout.

Darn it! I had pretty much talked myself out of it and now you come along. :)

It is dog ugly but . . . JREast has built a train that goes so fast they have to consider the aerodynamics so that it doesn't become airborn and requires air brakes AND can be coupled together when you need capacity. Aesthetics follows functions and I just wish we had a train with the Hayabusa's speed or functionality over the entire NE corridor.

Railroads are similar the world over - no trains means no revenue - and as we both know and appreciate, Japanese count on rail much more than other industrialized nations. With ports on the Honshu east coast in shambles, the Japanese railroads are more important than ever moving goods to devistated areas. Still, I am always amazed at how fast any railroad in a developed country can get service restored after a disaster or wreck.

Yes, I sent you an email.

And I would like to just officially say, I am not partial to high speed trains, but this one is especially, hmm what is the word.... hideous... :tb-ooh: Don't hurt me....

Seriously, some nice looking fleets, just not my cup of train.

Give it a few years, damn tastes change faster than new aches and pains appear. And yes they appear fast.
