I model mostly steam to diesel era Milwaukee Road, Northern Pacific, and some Great Northern. Growing up in Miles City MT. The Milw. and N.P. ran through Miles and the G.N. about 80 miles north with a lot of their cars on the two in miles. I've researched some of the Butte Anaconda and Pacific, largely a mining short line around Butte and Anaconda MT. A very interesting rail road! However it would take an extreme amount of scratch building to model accurately model. OK I better shut up now!!
Western Pacific Sacramento Northern Tidewater Southern Central California Traction Stockton Terminal & Eastern Quincy Railroad
I'm really impressed with the amount of response so far. The numbers are pretty much settling out the way I expected it. I had hoped for a little more representation from the Eastern Steam segment but what do I know.
Nickel Plate Road. Lima to Bellevue Ohio. Mid 1950"S. Lots of steam, maybe some early Geeps and diesel switchers but also 080's. interesting collection and variety of interests. Just spent a few days along the SP part of the UP near Tucson and then along Warren's BNSF near Gallup. Warren was busier, maybe he knows something. They were so many trains that it reminded me of my Dad's recollections of the NKP during and right after WWII when he worked as the Chief Clerk to the Trainmaster in Lima. Great stories of vastly and quickly changing priority of trains and moving crews to minimize working over 16 hours on duty and going "dead" for 12 hours, of so many troop trains sitting for long hours as other high priority trains went by. I wish my memory was better or that he could still tell me how to model my layout. Jack
Here's one of the reasons I chose to model what I model. Yeah...the scenery isn't finished, but the trackwork is correct for Echo Junction in 1951 thru 1959...but look what's on the track! Cheers! Bob Gilmore
I run mostly UP on my fantasy railroad but also run SP & ATSF as these are what I remember from my youth
282mike, the guys from the Bozeman Ntrak outfit said one of their members juct moved out here to MC. Wouldn't be you? Am over here in G'dive working and RR'ing! Grey One, Love it!! Fun, as it supposed to be!!!
Right now, Midwest 1950's free lanced railroad. Iowa Central is a rough sub of the Rock Island. We do some things like them, and some thing not all like them. I didn't vote, cause It's either East or West. Alot of people in Mid-America may have an issue with that. ;-) My next layout may be the Pacific Coast Railroad. Got the book for Xmas and I've fished off the pier at Port Harford many times. And kitbashing a Blackstone 2-8-0 with that sound is hard to not wanna do.
CSX's old Clinchfield North-End, from Elkhorn City, Ky. to Dante, Va. plus associated branches circa '89-'91. Lots of SD40s, SD40-2s, SD50s, U30Cs, C30-7s & Stealth Grey C40-8s. There's a few 4-axle units runnin' around too, with an even mix of EMDs and GEs! Lots of paint schemes up to YN2, plus EMD leasing ex-NS SD35s & GE Leasing ex-ATSF C30-7s too. I have a FEW coal cars for the ops once everything is running. Trevor D.
Everytime I look at this post, the percentages get closer together. I can't believe 150 voters so far. I wonder if it will get to 200 and what the numbers will look like. Watching the numbers so far, the Western Diesel group responded loudest and first but ever since then, the other groups have been steadily gaining. It's very interesting to watch how it has shaped up.
I model the SP from 46~56 and I have an freelanced logging line in there. I just love the look of the Cab Forwards and the streamlined Antelopes.
IC's primary trackage is east of the Mississippi so that would fall into east. The poll is already complex enough without adding to it. If you break down the data too far, you don't get any usable data. The whole point to this is everyones comment on certain manufactures East/West bias. I just wanted to see if it was justifiable.
NYC main through upstate NY, early sixties, maybe into the early PC era. Apparently pretty much virgin territory in N. One area I must model is Herkimer. Railroad sandwiched between a state highway and the Mohawk, with a line branching off to the north, a Thruway overpass, and a barge lock thrown in for good measure. Need more passenger equipment, though. Have lots of head end cars.
South central us running Southern/NS transition period which still lets me run cabeese and some FAMILY LINES/SEABOARD /SCL L&N stuff with a smattering of ILLINOIS CENTRAL GULF....before the dark times ...before the DEATH STAR..logo
