Am I missing something? Does anybody make any modern locos in the NS paint scheme besides SD70M and SD80's. I have the EMD's. What about dash 8 and 9 and Gevo's I know FVM had a Gevo run but I can't seem to find any GE power anywhere. I'm looking for some modern GE power.
I'm looking for more like these locos Gevo, C44-9W or the 8-40CW. The C30-7 is not really modern power.
Since, as usual, the dealer/advertisers aren't jumping on an opportunity, you could try here: http://www.pacific-western-rail.com/product_search.php?f_Manufacturers%5B%5D=282&f_ProductTypes=null&f_Keywords=Norfolk+Southern&InStock=1
I had never looked at that road but now that you mention I've looked and they are hard to find. But I would suggest that you look at a etailer around that area and might have an easier time finding some. Just an idea that I hope might help
Chicago is on the western edge of the Mid-West. When I moved to Dayton, Ohio I thought I had moved to the east coast. WRONG, I was in the heartland of the MID-WEST. DASH as I was called by the local's. Ok, what was the question? No, there isn't much out there...YET! Like SP locomotives to do them correctly they need certain types of high noses, bell location and light packages. Making it touch to produce prototypically correct diseasels. Sorry about that.

You're going to have to be creative and patient to find what you're looking for. All of these have been done in the past, some as old as 1997 (Kato Dash 9's)... Atlas did the Dash 8-40C, Dash 8-40CW, and Dash 8-40B in NS paint Kato did the C44-9W (and others you already mentioned) in NS paint FVM was supposed to release an incorrect ES44DC last year in both HH and primer. Don't think those made it to market yet. They also have the entire ES44DC heritage fleet coming out with cab corrections for the headlights. Bachmann Dash 8-40's (would not be a personal choice of mine though) Good luck and happy hunting. Been there and usually have success finding obscure items. Brian
The sad thing is that both Kato and FVM released Gevo's in the CSX livery yet no NS yet. Is there a reason why.
Here's a Kato C44-9W on Ebay... has the headlight on the nose. http://www.ebay.com/itm/KATO-176-37...h=item565190ed9c&ssPageName=RSS:B:SHOP:US:101 I recently picked one up and plan on doing a bit of a bash to move the headlights. These can be had for cheap sometimes due to the headlight issue if you keep your eyes open. I myself model NS and know your pain, but keep an eye on Ebay... I've got a pretty respectable fleet assembled mostly from auctions so it can be done. I WANT A DAMN GEVO THOUGH!!! C'mon FVM! I have a feeling one of the biggest reasons why the big wigs don't make NS readily avalailable is because NS insists on having their headlights above the windshield. I'm sure they feel anyone who cares about NS might pass up their models because of this, and the tooling to make that change to the NS specific locos is proably something they aren't interested in changing. FVM's GEVO- Again, incorrect headlight placement *sigh*
Start a text file and make a list of the available locos; you could start with the list which Brian K posted. Make a line of text for each loco, such as: : "Atlas Dash 8-40C Norfolk Southern NS" You may need to add "n scale" as a parameter if too many HO items pop up. Then religiously copy and paste each text string into the google bar each day and hunt them down with a vengence! :teeth::teeth: You may want to create the same searches in eBay and save them, and set the search to email results daily. I find eSnipe to be a very useful tool for scoring hits. Some people don't like it, but it works while I sleep, and it's so nice to get a You Won! email in the morning...
Atlas is also releasing Norfolk Southern SD-60. Supposed to be on the shelves last year but delayed. Jamie
FVM also has the narrow porch rails too, just like Kato. As for the headlights, I wonder why Kato can't get it right. They already have the high headlights on the SD70s and SD80s, so re-tooling the GEVO mold shouldn't be all that difficult. Then again, I'm not an engineer so I have no idea what goes into that sort of thing.
and on the atlas sd50 and sd60. I have both in NS and now both run great with my kato NS engines mulled together and quiet. I replaced the atlas motor with a kato motor and changed the wheels in the trucks to kato wheels. and now they run better and glide over the rails. Iam also working on a sd70 and gevo for my NS fleet and did a sd38-2. ed
NS is definitely a lessor looked at railroad to manufacture due to all their unique details. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but Atlas has also made a run or two of the SD60M and MP15DC but till there are more available I'll keep building my own. I've been eyeing up the SD60M's myself, and found an MP15DC last year. OP any interesting in bashing one for yourself? I recently built my own high-nose SD40-2 since a high-nose version hasn't been offered. This was a first attempt for me, not as intimidating once you get to work on it...
