Thought I would start this topic since I always enjoyed the N scale version. Here is my very first purchase of my venture back into HO. I have a rather large order on the way and will post more once they arrive next week. Purchased this Athearn Genesis MP GP38-2 from Chuck at Feather River Train, yes Chuck does supply HO secretly but watch for announcements on his website in the future. I am really impressed by the out of the box detail and quality of this model and the operation speed and sound quality is excellent. Ok lets try and get this topic active to rival our N scale buddies on here
Probably one of my more recent locomotives. Needs to be stripped and repainted, but runs really nice. 1949 and earlier Varney Super Mikado (changed the boiler design after 1949), fully sprung, including the Central Valley six-wheel tender trucks. Absolute most recent is an RDC. Need to find new rubber bands for it. Dave
I am not an HO guy but I am planing a shelf layout so I have picked up a couple of things. One, an E-8 (surprise, surprise): and second, a couple of Missouri Public Service Hoppers: I won't be buying a lot of HO stuff but I will acquire a few things. Charlie
Good start to this topic, well as you know I sold my entire N scale fleet other than a few collectables. The money i raised will totally fund my venture into HO. I have 4 locomotives on order and 22 cars due to be delivered next week so i will have lots to post.
Went kinda wild with this purchase but then again i have a weakness for H8 Alleghenys and i can afford it.
Nope and i 'll tell ye why. theres no way i'd spend the extra money for what pass's for factory siund in this locomotive, the Loksound decoder they use is in my and others opinions just terrible the speaker cheap. the sound comes out tinny and wimpy the and whistle is totally incorrectfor a H8. whereas the Tsunami Heavy steam combined with a large High bass speaker is soooo much better AND the Norfolk & Western 1218 Whistle is as close to a Nathan single chime whistle (a hooter) as your going to get. all for about the same money. matter of fact heres a video clip of my DM&IR Yellowstone with the Tsunami / High bass speaker combination running on our club layout. http://youtu.be/6FaOQBt5lh4
Just speaking from personal experience, I recall saying kind of the same thing myself a few years ago....or was it my wife? Nice looking E-8 in any case!
So far, I have received one of these and one of these in the past three weeks: I got this one refurbished for about 45% off MSRP at BLI: http://www.broadway-limited.com/paragon2prri1sa-2.aspx I got one of the new Paragon 2 Hudsons just released for the second time...I think. I have one of these coming in about three weeks: Due later this year are this: http://www.broadway-limited.com/BLI...itealuminumletteringParagon2SoundDCDCCHO.aspx And maybe this...if they release it. Both of these last two have been on their books for about four years with countless postponements. http://www.broadway-limited.com/paragon2atsfmodernized2-10-2.aspx
Had it a little while, but only just started to use this SZ 643 Durica by Moko And this MAV (Hungarian) M62 by Roco for cross border workings
No pics yes, but my last purchase was an Athearn blue-box GP38-2 in Conrail livery, which I plan to strip, detail, paint & decal into another Frisco locomotive.
This.... Even though my main RR is the CSX, I couldn't resist picking up some external power (DCC and Tsunami Sound) in the last week. At some point, it'll be weathered to match a fairly new unit. Until then, it stays in the display cabinet. I have a personal rule that nothing hits the layout without a proper dusting of weathering. Only a few engines being delivered from the GE plant avoid the airbrush for awhile. Brian
You read my mind... went back and was editing the post at the same time you posted. Probably weather it in the next month or so as I get time. I have a GP15T that is screaming for attention.... Brian
The CSX GP15T that Athearn just released in the YN3 scheme. I've got one of the GP15T's from a previous run in the YN2 scheme (see below)... http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATHG68135 I'll have the new one done in another week or so. I really wish I could take better pictures down in my basement where the layout is located, but the lighting is so poor for photography that nothing comes out right. I just bought some new photo flood lights, so will see if the helps any. Brian
