The Broadway sets only recently sold out at Kato and came out in 2008. I seriously doubt there are any plans to re-run them in the forseeable future.

Now the COLA recently sold out, however that was a fairly new set, so a rerun with new names/numbers might be a possibility...

I wouldn't place 100% certainty in anything Kato unless if it was officially announced. While reps may tell you unofficially that something is or isn't in the works, plans change, production schedules get changed, etc. and so on...not because a representative is trying to decieve anyone.

    Enjoy!

Whew! I'm safe for now. Ha ha. But wouldn't that cause a big stink? Judging by that response Ryan made, you can see... I am hoping he didn't pass out and fall down, from the mere thought.

The report about the sets selling out turned out to be true, even though at first it was pooh-poohed. Don't be so certain that only the COLA comes out as re-issue.
There are plenty of people on the forums crying for more N Pennsy stuff, even if it's only renamed cars and different paint schemes for locos. We complain nobody listens to us, then dismiss suggestions that they ARE.
We have no idea how Kato plans these things. It's quite possible Kato planned to definitely make some kind of iconic N steamer after the Daylights sold well, but they used passenger sets to test the waters. The BL took forever to sell out. The COLA relatively quickly. That may point to Kato believing a UP steamer has more chance of success than a PRR one, especially because it can be used with the train sets.

Well, after the observation cars come from CCS I will have my stand in NCL, just need a couple CCS sleepers and the F3ABA set and it will be a perfect match. Just in time for Kato to release theirs and you know I will have to buy the Kato set!!

But you'd have to wonder how much quicker the Broadway would have sold if it came out with a K4 as an option for power in place of the GG1.

Except quite a few people would have bought the K4 without getting the set. That was proved with the GG1. Various people bought it who, not only didn't buy the BL, but weren't really Pennsy fans, didn't have an eastern themed-layout, or even had modern-era layouts ... just because it was a really neat looking engine with a famous history (also a Kato-quality excellent runner). A lot of modelers admitted this on these forums.

Now if someone would just make the domes for the NCL. I have a hodge-podge of CCS, Walthers, and Rapido NCL stuff. Although not prototypically correct, it is close. Close enough for me anyways. I just wish that the light green was a little closer match from mfg to mfg.

If Kato would make a NCL, I am not sure what I would do with that I have now. Might sell it, might not. Who knows.

Ryan the correct dome for the NCL are from con-cor. I know a guy who has a full custom NCL with con-cor domes. And 3/4 of the train is brass car sides.

Were any steam locos used with 1948 Broadway equipment?
EMD E7s started arriving in 1946 and Alco PAs came along in 1947.

They still have to come out with Milwaukee Road Little Joes according to other rumours that have been made, and a complete Olympian Hi to go with it would not be a bad idea, either.

Which is the MAIN reason I sold my OMI Little Joe E-79 to finance my wifes wedding ring.

Maybe you should forward that information to Kato then, and see if they can at least let you trade in the ring for a Little Joe.

Well 2 reasons that wont work.

1- I will never get the ring off my wifes finger.

2- If I was to get the ring off her finger, it would cost me alot more $$$$ than the cost of the OMI Little Joe.

I think some folks draw the mistaken conclusion that the speed with which an item sells out is a 100% reflection of its popularity with modelers. While that is certainly part of the equation, the missing part of that rational is the production quantity. Kato likely doesn't make an identical quanity of every set. They look at preorders, sales history, and other factors to make an educated guess on the "optimal" quantity to produce. Nothing is popular with every modeler. Not even those gorgeous E5's (although, I suspect that even the "critics" have sneaked into shops late at night, secretly admiring them and struggling not to buy). I'm sure the BL (and everything else) is very popular with some modelers. I bought one simply because it is a very nice, prototypical set at a good price. If there are still "warehouses full of them" (maybe G scale warehouses), it is likely because Kato just mis-calculated the demand. They will eventually sell out (everything does), and the sunk cost in tooling will be further recovered at some point through a second run.

Not to mention, if Kato ever did produce one, you could probably get 4 or 5 of them for the price of one OMI Little Joe in brass.
