Is anyone else having any issues with Fox Valley Models wheels sets? I am on my third pack of 3301-100's with no issues but the first bag of 3302-100's have several wheels that have come off the axle. Some were loose in the bag like this and some have come off in my fingers..... Anyone else seen this, had this issue? Thanks Steve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Been there, done that. That is why I purchase Intermountain metal wheels from now on. I might try MTL metal wheels in the future.
I bought a couple packs at last years N Scale Weekend at Altoona. Had quite a few like this, figured a lot of it was from the show circuit packing and unpacking, travel, picked up, thrown back down. I contacted FVM and he had said about sending my address to him to send some replacements if they had some extras or when new batch came in. That was Sept of last year, I haven't seen or heard anything since. Of course, I don't think the new batch ever showed up yet either.
Good to know, thanks for the comments. I sent an email so I'll wait to see what happens. Don't think I'll buy anymore until the issue is resolved. Was anyone able to fix the ones that did come apart? Seems like you can put them back and twist making it snug but I don't know how long it will hold for. Kind of worried now that I'll be having wheels falling off all over the place! Not a happy camper tonight, nothing but problem after problem with the FVM 3302-100's. other batches of 3301-100's have been awesome but these just keep derailing and the wheels keep coming off the axle So frustrated tonight, beginning to think switching to metal wheels was a bad idea! Here's what's currently under repair, I'll let the CA harden overnight and put them back in the trucks. Off to bed before I break something that isn't already broken! JK, thanks for the tips so far. Steve, if you are using thin CA and you use a sparingly small amount, no need to wait for hardening. It pretty much kicks in a few seconds and it's ready to use. But of course sleep can do you good too during a frustrating MRR session!
Thank you for the tip, installed them back in today and a better run session but still some issues. Train never uncoupled before and now wants to uncouple everywhere, not sure if its coincidence or metal wheels causing more drag than before. I did put a small dab of paint on the inside of the wheels I repaired so I can see them going by and track which ones I repaired from this batch. Shining a flashlight at the trucks as they go by really helps spot imperfections. Steve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Steve, if you are using FVM 3302s with MicroTrain trucks, you will have a dragging issue. The 3302s are 0.553" axles, designed for IM, Atlas and ConCor trucks. The 3301s are 0.540", designed for MTL
Yep - Using the 3302's for atlas trucks, using the 3301's for MT trucks. But thanks for making sure! Steve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow, I have used several hundred of the wide tread replacement wheels with no issues. Without them I would have gotten rid of all of my BMLA spine cars, they are super reliable runners now. Hope it's just a temp QC problem, since I talk so highly of the wheels to my fellow train club members.......
