Mark Watson has posted videos of his very nice blade train. Mark got me all hyped up, so here is my version. Please, overlook the SP car as it is an Aztec track polisher and this film was made on our club layout All of the white items are 3D printed. Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking.
Great job on the video Carl!!! You have a huge layout. How big is it and how many feet long is the mainline? Joe
Joe, This is not my layout but rather it is the clubs, Southern New Mexico N Scalers. I am not real sure about the trackage. We have two main lines running, one clockwise and the other counter clockwise. The back side of the layout is 48' in length and 4' wide. there are the two mains and 6 yard, set up, tracks. Each little peninsula is 4x8'. We have many by-pass track so we can avoid the mountain climb plus two reverse loops. I can easily come up with 500 feet total trackage. We used KATO Unitrack and have been very happy with it and its turnouts. If you are ever in Las Cruces give Fifer Hobbies a call and come see us. Thanks for asking, and thanks for the kind word. As always, have fun, Carl
Carl, Your models look good and you have a nice train. I handled wind trains for several projcts in Minnesota and Iowa. I would like to offer a few suggestions. One. The hubs are about 20-25,000 pounds each, they would ship in groups of 5 on 89' flatcars for projects I worked. Secondly the nacelles weight about 120,000 pounds each. We shipped them paired on 8 axle FM heavy duty cars. Given the way you have them modeled the loads would not move as the cars would be off center for weight. The blades are dead on. I offer my thoughts as a suggestion only, you've done some awesome modeling, would like you to improve it a bit more if you choose to.
Man that looks sharp and love the big layout too. I caught this train last week, and the video might help you with any changes as mentioned by jpf94 above: I was told these are wind turbine motor parts and they’re being transported as he mentions above on reinforced flats. Hope that’s helpful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I love your unusual train, and appreciate all the work involved in the turbine loads. I live in Luna, and will have to come down for a visit.
Thanks for the comments and the excellent video. Yes, I believe those are the nacelles that sit on top of the poles and house the generator or is it alternator plus the electronics, I have already changed my hubs and nacelles. Yes, anybody and everybody is welcome to come see our layout, we are there on the third Saturday of each month for a short meeting and then we run trains for 3-4 hours. I would recommend that you call Mike Fifer at Fifer Hobbies too make sure that we will be at the layout that Saturday. We love to show it off and in fact the day after our Fair show we stripped one large are down to the foam and are in the process of re-building that area. Always have fun, Carl
