For some time my former employer moved JLG telehandler frames by rail from North Dakota to Pennsylvania. Shapeways got me the frame stacks, and I am going to model the load on a stand in car from Atlas/BLMA. Test runs at the MN Free MO layout were successful. Final details to work out include false floor to mount the stacks to, over stack strapping and the knack box.
The load design had to include the appendages that stuck out from the sides of the frames. The solution was Steel I beams. The first level was welded to the car deck for each stack. Then the first frames were put on, pinned in place and the next I beam was added. Process was repeated for each level. Total of 4 pins per frame, they were reused and returned in the Knack box on the car. Similar to the auto parts frames flats. Then a pair of 4 inch straps were looped over the top and ratcheted tight. The straps were reused as well. The I beams were stacked on the car deck and returned using a steel rod with thread on the ends to secure them No waste. Worked well. In N scale the most difficult part so far has been finding a good durable straping material that allows the load to be removeable
