Good morning from partly sunny and warm Northeast Ohio! Athearn 40' HY-Cube finished with Scalecoat II Tuscan Red, Black and Silver paints, then lettered with Herald King Decals. SP had two classes of 40' Hy-Cubes, one for applicance service, and this one for shipping finished copper. Front Range TOFC Flat Conversion from Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Oddballs Decals. When the 45' trailers came out the Southern was trying to get away from only one trailer on a 89' flat and came up with the converted boxcar idea as they had scads of old 50' boxcars without work. Also painted with Scalecoat II Silver and White paints the trailer, which was then lettered with Microscale Decals. Also did a few loads! Duha Transformer load installed on an Exactrail Depressed center flatcar. Jaeger corrugated pipe load installed on 50' gondola. Athearn NKP GP9's with a general freight on the Strongsville Club layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
M-T N Scale GM&O boxcar painted some years ago. The number is correct for the series; the last three digits were chosen to signify my move to Montgomery, AL in January 1984. The M&O completed its branch to Montgomery in 1898.
I pulled out some more of my print photo collection and did some scanning this week. One of the things I found was a number of under construction photos of past layouts. This was one that was designed to move up north, but I wound up giving it away when we were trying to sell the house. Interesting features here were the Pere Marquette interchange stacked on top of a pair of staging tracks that were to be reached via a liftout. The plastic piers were to support bridges carrying the Pere Marquette/Huron Central (Yeah, I've been using that road name for 40+ years) connection over part of the industrial area. The upper level tracks were hidden behind the backdrop. The other side of the layout came pretty much intact from an earlier attempt based on Don Mitchell's Oakville Central plan published in Model Railroader. Pere Marquette staging on the upper level was again hidden behind the backdrop. The downfall of this plan was a lack of turning facilities for steam power as back then the Huron Central was entirely steam powered. Although I had expanded the earlier Don Mitchell plan by spreading the two halves apart to provide for a turntable and a waterfront area, I lost interest in it due to a lack of a second terminal to provide a destination for trains.
Another angle to the yard and engine servicing facilities: The "ISO" signs indicate at what point the track is isolated when I put its corresponding toggle switch to off. Alco switchers, of course!
I’ve shared this one before, but it is my favorite. This was captured spontaneously as the scene developed. Borrowed Southern power on the point of this westbound climbing the mountain between Slatyfork and Pipe Falls on the late Lin Young’s Grafton & Greenbrier layout in 2018. After several weeks of trying to get a passenger train run by, I finally succeeded. It took fixing and tweaking track, replacing couplers, and adjusting a bunch of cars. Without further ado here the Ridley Limited rolling pass the Water Tower.
