Anyone know anything about "Gowers Custom N Scale"? Quality of work? Work they can/can't do? I'm not on Fakebook and a Fakebook link is the only thing I can find. Thanks for any/all info. "What do you want done?" Possibly custom N scale locomotive painted in a graffiti type design.
I've worked with Jeff (Gowers) on a few 3D print projects I've done - he's probably one of the more "in demand" custom painters out there. Very busy so I don't know what kind of lead time he's got going now. He did announce a few weeks ago that he's only doing locomotives this year. Can't say that I've seen him do any graffiti but I'm sure he could do it. Very quality work. Another painter you could check out is gaethnscalemodels. I've worked with him on SD70ACu locomotives and have seen some of his other work in the process - he has a website you can check out for examples of his work. Cheers -Mike
HO is a lot easier to do, and there are more HO modelers than N. So if I'm a custom painter, I'm going where the money is...
Gowers does fantastic work. He's one of the finest in the business, based on photos of his work. Probably at the top of the price chart, too.
N scale is and has been a very solid #2, for a good period of time. But with limited runs and ever rising prices, will it remain so....? And now back to the topic at hand.
I remember a MRR editor's column a few(?) years back, where he said he thought that if model railroading was growing anywhere, it was in N scale. You wouldn't know it from their content.
I had two N gauge layouts and an outside O. Then decided to move up north and tried switching to HO. Now I'm back. So it can't be all that bad. Rich
Well I'm resigned to the fact that I will have to follow up my first layout with a 4x8 HO layout. I just can't get what I need for the N scale layout. So my choices are - 3D printing, or moving to a different scale really. I will always love N and always own N anyways. When I first saw N as a kid it just enthralled me. I just couldn't believe they make trains so small. Then there was Z. Then there was TT. Pricing won't bother so much as can the guy do what I want to have done or want to even attempt it. I realize N is small and painting it is much harder than HO.
Hehe. I had no idea he was on here. Whoops. I'm just used to train guys being old cranky guys who don't want to be bothered tho most here are very very helpful.
You might want to look into 3D printing. Prices on the machines are coming down while the machines are vastly improved. Even FDM printers can now turn out excellent quality buildings and vehicles for N scale. And the Resin printers quality is outstanding.
