Maybe true. But there is a well-known, street legal conversion that puts the motor from a Porsche 911 into a VW Beetle. Since Porsche designed both, the motors are supposed to be easily swappable. I would think the hard part would be keeping the front end down at speed. Beetles often get a little squirrelly because the front end wants to lift up over 70 mph (or so I've been told).
You can get a traction bar that runs under the engine, it helps keep the front wheels down. When I was younger I worked at a VW speed shop. Gene Berg Enterprises. They had the 1/4 mile record for a 4 horizontally opposed cylinder air/oil cooled engine. I believe it was 10.39 seconds. His son, Gary Berg drove it.
Hemi likes them fog pictures. (I do too) To help get this back "on track", SD45s have V20 engines! Doug
Are these E-Units in Chicago's commuter service or did you catch them during BN's short time of intercity passenger service?
The photo is from late 1970 and E7 9920 was scrapped in early 1972. There are photos of it on the Denver Zephyr in the 1970-71 timeframe.
