A very good promo reel for Alco-GE locomotives! I like those old films with that particular narration style and intonation.

That trio of matched NH orange pinstriped engines looks really stunning!

The view ahead from the cab looks familiar...

Cab of CN 9400, MLW FA1 built 1949, first "streamlined" diesel built in Canada, in Montreal!

I like sitting there, staring over that nose, imagining the view. :)

That's neat. My first ride in a diesel cab was in the rain in an RS-1 or RS-3 and I was amazed that the window wipers were air powered. I'd never thought of that. Your picture so clearly shows the piston and mechanism. I'm guessing that modern day locomotives use the same; it only makes sense.

If it was the CNW, they would find a use for the "garbage'.

I did not make it to Helena. My brother and sister-in-laws were here and that didn't allow that much free time. Maybe next year.

Our 1950 Ford pickup had vacuum wipers and every time you stepped on the gas, they would either slow way down or stop, depending on how hard you pressed.

My old VW, the washer fluid was a little knob you had to pull out and push in, it had a hose line to the spare tire in the trunk. The air pressure in the spare washed the windows. I guess if you needed to use the spare, you would have to go to a service station to wash your windshield off.

I had several of the ponton bodied Benz's over the years and all of those had foot powered washer pumps. I think the lack of vacuum powered wiper performance was near universal. I still have a 41 Nash 600 coupe with those. Under any sort of load, there isn't any wiper action but if using engine compression braking on a good downhill, it will almost launch the wiper arms.

Thank You so much for sharing this film. It probably was made about the same time as I saw the westbound heading for the bridge.

Great shot sir. The B boat era was a great time to be railfanning the CSX. :)

As found at Knoxville TN on 03/07/1978, GE U25C 1509, delivered to the L&N in 1965 with tri-mount trucks. I've always liked the one-piece windshield on some U Boats.

From 10/19/1995 at Hagerstown, MD. With the WM relegated to history books, Hagerstown's importance had greatly declined.
