Hi folks, Here a couple of update shots since been sometime since I posted anything. Progress comes slowly... Some retaining walls...track yet to be ballasted: Engine facility under construction. Roundhouse is a shortened Korber kit. Turntable, inspection pit and 'manual' ash pit in various stages of construction: Happy 4th!
John Sing Nice job on the layout! HemiAdda2d Great job on the locomotives! Flash Awesome looking locomotive! Red Rock Awesome photo! Overshoe Looks great! Thanks for the update.
Since I actually now have a base layer of ground cover on the layout, I rewarded myself by running a few trains today. Nothing spectacular, but the first operation I've done in months. What a difference it makes having all the blue foam covered up, even if it's not the final scenery. Remember that the buildings are just block form mockups. They're not very good shots as I was losing the light and was hand holding the camera, but at least it's something to show. Here's a shot of my only bridge. btw, one of the only things the CFO asked for in the layout was to have a bridge where one train would cross over, so this one's for the CFO. I didn't really run all the cars, but it was fun populating the yard with a few of the cars. I'm sure they enjoyed being out of their storage boxes. It may not be obvious in this picture (it probably wouldn't be obvious even if it wasn't so blurry) but this engine is working up a 4% grade, with curves. Yes, I plan on running real short trains. After all, how long can I realistically make them on a door sized layout? Maybe next week I'll have some better photos. Regards
Ed, Looks nice um, was it my blue foam pics that pushed you to do that? It will be a while before I catch up.
I haven't done any modeling lately but here are 3 pics from my latest trip to Strasburg this week: Russ
Grey: "um, was it my blue foam pics that pushed you to do that?" Close, actually the main impetus came through Rick Nicholson's (where is he, by the way?) Layout Building Party thread that started back in Feb, iirc. I didn't get all I wanted done, but I did get a good start. It just sat there for a while after the party ended and I finally decided I was tired of the blue. I'm still shaking my head at the difference getting the blue covered up and a basic coat of ground foam did for the layout. "It will be a while before I catch up." Not to worry, Grasshopper, you've made the big step, which is moving from paper to 3D. Remember, the layout of a thousand (scale) miles begins with a single strip of cork roadbed..... or something like that. Regards
Russ, those are great pictures.....but am I correct in assuming that the once mighty Pennsy four-track main west out of Philly has been reduced to a single track?? Oh, how the once Majestic and Mighty have Fallen...
Hank, there may be one or 2 sections where it is single track but for the most part it is 2 tracks all the way to Harrisburg but you are correct at how the mighty have fallen. I remember this same location as a youngster and seeing a PC GG1 hauling freight on one track, 2 Amtrak E60's pacing each other on the middle two tracks and another freight on the other side holding for traffic. The GG1's went when the E60's started appearing and apparently, so did the tracks! Russ
Some really inspirational shots there. No rail or model rail for me this weekend, I spent ten hours at an airshow! Hopefully by next week I will have some to show of my layout
