Well, I did something pretty stupid, so stupid that I am almost embarrassed to tell you but if I can help prevent anyone else being this stupid maybe my action will have a slightly positive consequence.

I use the styrene in the gaps of my track routine, super gluing it, then filing the styrene to contour of the track - in N scale. I got into a habit of puting the styrene in the gaps, with one hand and using my teeth to open the top of the super glue tube, then apply the glue with the other hand. I know you can guess what is coming. Yup, I opened the tube with my teeth, the top came right off, the entire application tube - not just the cap - and super glue was all over the insides of my mouth.

If I hadn't even thought about this scenario it would have been so easy to glue my teeth to one another, my tongue to the roof of my mouth, or my lips together. The instant in happened I opened my mouth and centered my tongue so it wouldn't touch anything. But the glue was all over my teeth, my tongue, my lips, my fingers, everywhere. It was pretty rough getting it out of my mouth, fortunately it came easily off of my tongue but much more difficult from my teeth.

So learn from my bad, never use your teeth to open the super glue cap from the tube.

    My bad, my bad....my.... bad!!!

    rick,

i have done worse, well, my roommate has to me anyways, i was taking a nap at my desk (college), with my hand against my face, and he decided it would be just hillarious to take the super glue from my radio controlled cars (CA glue) and glue my hand to my face.... well, he used the superbond formula.... long story short, i had to RUN to a class with my hand glued to my face......

    it was bad....

anyways, you'rs tops mine in the ways of life threatening, but mine was pretty embarassing!

    Note to self:

If using mouth to open super glue keep a water hose handy for immediate flushing of mouth.

Thanks for the heads up Rick. I don't think I'll ever be able to open super glue again without the mental image of you sitting there trying to keep your tongue from touching anything. :D

Once upon a time, many decades ago in the early days of super glue, a chain saw manufacturer was using high school kids on summer break to glue loose rubber grips to the saws. One of the guys had to go potty and you can guess what he glued to what. The nurses office was on the far side of the plant with about 50 jeering women and girls in between. He never came back for his pay check.

Well, on the positive side, I found another use for the dental picks I own for working on the layout.

The water hose note-to-self is funny, but you probably don't want to flush with a small stream of water as it will spread CA into a nice thin layer everywhere you don't want it and help cure it at the same time. You want a flood of water. like Niagara Falls; the warnings say for 15 minutes and I doubt if Rick or any of us would be good at holding our breath underwater for 15 minutes.

We are glad you did not qualify for a Darwin Award.

I am thinking a flush and NOT swallow some Acetone, then flush that with LOTS of water (toxic!!!). No.....DONT do that, lol...just a joke and you WILL get a Darwin if you try it!

Having said that, a cotton bud (wifey calls em Q tips) dipped in acetone will let you slowly peel your tongue off.... ROFLMAO
