I posted this to the Railfan Photos section - one of the pics from yesterday is linked there - anway:
Here's sort of a mystery - I shot some pics today in Grand Rapids - along the old C&O tracks. When I got home tonight, I tried to load the photos as I normally do by taking the memory card out of the camera and downloading to my PC through my HP printer. I kept getting a message that the printer could not read the card - after several tries, I finally got out the USB cable and downloaded directly from the camera to the PC - I let the Windows XP wizard create the folder - it came up with "C&O gr" as a prefix for all of today's shots. This is odd to me - normally the camera codes the pictures - for example, yesterday's pics were all prefixed with "PA18xxxx" - PA for 10,or Oct. and 18 for the day. I use an Olympus C-765 digital. Somehow, I have ghosts in the sytem or the smartest equipment in the world....
The file name for the attached photo was "C&O gr 071" - it should have been "PA19xxxx" - wonder what caused this???

    Tim-

    Just a thought-

If it happens again. Perhaps the memory card needs to be formatted?

Tim, I am convinced that today's software engineers take great pleasure in building in problems for us to (try to) solve. Lately my PC has come up with what I call "the random error of the day." Sometimes it's the printer, sometimes email, sometimes file system, on and on and on. The next day, the thing that broke yesterday works fine, but there's a new one........... [IMG]

Fitz. I am glad I am not the only one that gets those errors.

Shot a couple more pictures today in Grand Rapids - couldn't download through the printer again. Used the USB cable - this time I used a browser window to manually transfer the pics to my "10202005" folder - photos are named as they should be by the camera software - "PA201911" for example. So somehow yesterday when I let the Windows "wizard" import the pics, the files were renamed by what must have been a totally incredible coincidence - and probably a great choice for my pics from the old C&O line in GR ("C&Ogr071") - still can't figure out how this name was created by my PC. Maybe that is why Microsoft calls the program a "wizard"...
