Had a decent length play with one (on DC) at the Wakefield show, and the owner is one of our group. What were you interested in & I can ask him?

The manual says"do not operate in excess of 18 volts".
My MRC Tech 3, 9500 series can't get it beyond 14.8.

What does yours max out to without accessories?

I've been using my tech 3 9500 with no problems, just watch your max volts. I read that in the manual also so I used my tech 2 2500 and it ran like junk couldn't get the remote to work and it wouldn't reverse all the time. I also have a tech 2 3000gs it works just fine with. Just don't crank the throttle all the way open on your tech 3 and you'll be fine. Sorry for the delay in answering.

Hi again I just reread your question , I haven't run mine at max volts as they caution against overloading the receiver and voiding the warranty,

Athearn recommends not to exceed 18 volts so my question is, can you get yours to 18 volts?
Mine peaks out at 14.8 DC and that's without any accessories.

    Thanks in advance.

    Darren,
Sadly to say, I got the EXACT one you pictured here, the sad part is, I tore it down, to bits an pieces, an I am in the process of rebuilding it (once my shop is moved to my new location an opened), but the Challenger is being built into a Western Maryland M-2 Challenger. Once ready for paint it will be a sister to the one I already have built thats numbered 1201, so the one I'm in the process of building will be numbered 1202 :D

I checked mine and it maxes out at about 15 vdc, it could be my eyes or the meter itself causing the difference.

Sadly Darren, yes, I did. However, being its just torn down an nothing done to it to make it become Western Maryland yet, I may change my mind an make it a B&O 2-6-6-4 KB-1, but that too is just a thought but in any case, it will become either the Western Maryland M-2, #1202, or the B&O KB-1 2-6-6-4 (cab number is an uncertainy).

Reason I had done this is one, it was in nasty shape (reason for a tear down an rebuild), an I do that when I "redesign" loco's so everything is all done at once, and when done, its ready to run.....
