Uhhhhhh..... ok then..... if you look through the pictures, one of them states these kids were driving down the tracks.... Do people not realize that these big trains use these tracks???? Teens avoid big trouble when train slams into their SUV
The headline states that these kids avoided big trouble. They haven't heard from the insurance company or the UP yet- not to mention their folks! Looks like the gene pool stays muddied up for a little while longer.......
Ok let me get this straight, these kids were actually driving down ON the railroad tracks???? Darwin Awards anyone?
Hmmm..........idiots. How surprising, i thought they were eliminated years ago. I doubt the train had any damage, but the parent will sure want to know why their kid was driving on railroad tracks.
Well, let's see. We've proven a couple of things clearly here. IQ well below room temperature. Lack of common sense. *Sigh* These will be the future leaders of our nation. Just wait... They'll probably sue the RR for having the train on those tracks when they wanted to take a joy ride. Boxcab E50
Wow, that is stupid. it amazes me that they thought it a good idea to be driving down the track. maybe they just didnt know better because there was no sign on the track that told them not to drive down the line
Now shame on you guys! These were perfect little angels out driving at night and got lost going along a dirt road when they suddenly realized they should turn around. As they tried to make a "U" turn that just happened to be right on the grade crossing, one of their wheels accidently slipped between the rails causing the SUV to slide sideways down the track off the road, and they did not have enough power to climb up over those old pesky rails that leaped out and grabbed their innocent car! They are heros, for having the common sense to have all the kids get out before a train came along, which saved all their lives! The Railroad will probably give them a medal for thoughtfulness!
Wayne, I do agree with your point that they did at least have the common sense to get out of the vehicle and call for help. Making a U-turn on a grade crossing was the only dumb thing that the driver did. That can be chalked up to a lack of experience as a driver. I am sure that he will never make that mistake again. Also, looking at the pictures, there really isn't that much damage to the vehicle or locomotive and MOST importantly, the people involved. I am sure that the engineer was actually the most traumatized being that he didn't know at the time that he hit the car that there wasn't anyone in it! Russ
I kind of figured that Wayne Still, the only thing that puzzles me is whether or not the vehicle had headlights I don't know how you can get that loast less than 30 feet from the roadway! Russ
I know of at least a couple incidents locally where people completely missed the road and wound up driving down the tracks. One of them just kept going until the car got hung up on the rails and then sat there spinning the tires. Call me insensitive but I just don't understand how you confuse railroad tracks with blacktop. Better living thru recreational chemistry?? Don't think so.
I have seen the same thing over and over watching trains in one week i saw 6 people do the same thing i had to call the RR to stop all trains in the area there were Do Not Stop on Tracks signs and even a traffic light but the idiots still try to do u turns and get hung up on the tracks one day someone did it when Amtrak was in the depot and stoped only about 75 ft from the crossing
The headlights are on in the photos, and those are the bright Halogen ones too! If the kiddies were lost, maybe they were driving across country in 4 wheel drive off road? I probably don't have acceptable sympathy for imbeciles who put themselves and invited guests in self-jeopardy.
There is a level crossing just down the raod from where I work where several VIA trains cross every day. The sign states there is a $45 fine for stopping on the tracks... A friend who recently visited New York City showed me a picture he took of a sign stating there was a $350 fine for honking in the neighbourhood. I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Andrew
It is crazy out there with IDIOT drivers stoping on the tracks or people running in front of you.and yes even people throwing rocks bricks and anything else at us.I have had many close calls with cars trucks and people STAY OFF THE TRACKS.
