Does anyone know what color the Big Stone power Co. caboose's were. I am planning to model one in the near future but all the pictures I can find are in black and white. I think they were either yellow or orange. They were also called "long frames". They comprised of a International bay window caboose on a 60' flat car, used in coal service starting in 1974 by Milwaukee in S. Dakota! [IMG]

    Andy-

Owned by Big Stone, they were painted and lettered Milw 992298-992299. After Milw quit west of Ortonville, MN., Big Stone quickly stenciled them BSPX 1001, 1002. Retaining the Milw orange. Orange roof. Safety yellow ends.

Thanks Ken, I knew I could count on you!! I have a MDC 60' flat car and a Walthers International caboose kit. Now just some cutting and gluing and painting and I'll have my own longframe!!

    Andy-

A sixty foot flat should be pretty close. The cabooses were 56', 5&1/2 inches.

Am thinking- I don't believe I've ever seen the end results of anyone doing this project? How about some photos!

Ken, I got the idea from the MRHA steel caboose book. You are correct on the flat dimensions. But one end had stirrup steps and the other end had caboose steps. So I figure I can adjust the length when I mount the steps. They also said in the book that they never seen one modeled either. To me they just looked interesting, so I figured "what the heck". As to pictures I will see what I can do, I have never had any luck posting pictures, I just get lost in all the instructions, I really don't know that much about computors!!!

    JDerickP-

If you have access to a copy of the Milwaukee Road Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, Volume 1, (Morning Sun Books- 1999 - By Doug Nighswonger & William Stauss), see page 128 for a photo.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

Wow, I can't believe I never posted a picture. Here is the finished model minus the numbers.
