SP/SSW mars or gyra

    Which oscillating light did the SP use?

    or was it BOTH?

    Thank you very much, and now, that said, do you know if either type was dedicated to any particular series or type or style of engine?

    It depends; some units, like GP20s, could have Mars lights on one group, and Gyras on the next. Heck, it might have depended on which brand of light was cheaper the day the locomotive order was placed. :D Generally though, the Mars brand lights fell out of favor by ~roughly~ the early/mid 60s, and most new unit deliveries from then on were equipped with Pyle Gyralites. As Mars lights failed (or as units were shopped), it wasn't uncommon for them to be replaced with Gyralites.

    Also depends on the date. Mars did not make any more lights after some where between 1-77 to 8-78.
