The DA ones I've used and seen were very thin etched brass, thin enough that a bit too much pressure could easily distort them. That, and I don't like the fact there isn't any "glass" to them. Because of that, I switched to the clear plastic ones DA makes. More durable in my experience, and since they're clear plastic, nicely simulate the glass of the prototype, as can be seen in the pic of my SP 7427.
thanks for the info guys but now you have me worried whether its worth the effort lol, Can I use normal thinners to remove them off the backing sheet?
Well the Kato non dynamic hatch still hasnt arrived which is pretty disappointing but hopefully I will still get a chance to install the lift rings and wind shield over the weekend.
This morning I added the lift rings to the body and the eye bolts for the windshileds on the cab. I also add the side bell to the body.
Hi Paul, Looks great!... Except the cab sunshades. I think you have mounted them upside-down. I wish I can make progress as fast as you! :cool6xb:
Tom, Thanks you know i was wondering the same thing but thought the rib would be on the top, oh well i'll just have to change them around Does this look better?
Believe it or not, when I saw this mentioned in the MoPac Modelers group, I immediately said to myself "Self, Paul would like one of these..." If you could, let me know how it goes together- I may get one for my newly-finished GP38-2 and GP35M.
Bob, The kit should arrive this week but I wont make a start on it for a while. I'm a little disappointed with Kato as the non dynamic hatches have still not arrived. Today I'm hoping to add the air filters, mu hoses and new plough.
I have just finished adding the MU hoses, Plough and air filters. Be careful when mounting the air filters that you can fit the walkway over the chassis and it is clear of the fule tank.
Good work! Looks good, Colonel. It all seems so large after looking at N scale. I am interested because I have some HO scale to do also. Aren't those fuel filters? Or are they air filters? I never put anything like that on my N scale engines. About the smallest thing I tried was a bell under the walkway.
Good news, the Kato non dynamic hatch arrived today so I'll be able to hopefully spray the shell on the weekend. The Doc Caboose MoPac short bay window kit arrived today, although I wont be working on this project for a while I took a sneak look at the kit. Lots of parts but looks like very comprehensive instructions.
Problem with side trucks Well as I have today off I decided to paint the model and decal tomorrow. When the side trucks dried I thought I'd at least assemble the trucks and chassis thats where the problem started. When I tried to reassemble the trucks I found they would not clip back together, now I'm wondering whther I broke them when I dissaembled them. Here are the pics of the truck assemblies and as you can see the side trucks look as if the clips are broken, When i disassembled I thought they just unclipped now I'm thinking that I should have dropped out the bottom of the assembly to release the trucks? Can someone let me know if I have incorrectly disassembled breaking the sidetrucks? I was thinking as a solution to drill into the truck and use small self tapers??? Any suggestion would be appreciated as I dont want to have to pay shipping if i have to order replacement side frames??? another thing I noticed is I didnt remove the existing grab irons on the front or rear now i'm wondering how to add the decals The next image is of the painted shell.
I have never taken any Kato 6 axle trucks apart so i an not sure how to do it, I also sold my last Kato SD45 a few weeks ago so I cant have a look.
Thanks Matt, I'm thinking the only way to do it is to use small self tapping screws to secure them, I checked the Kato site and their are no spare sideframes available other than buying the whole truck at $25 each, Unless I can use another model?
