I'm doing some custom decals for "a friend" and I have about eight of the 5.5"x8" sheets left over along with 10 undec MTL 40' single door boxcars... I've seen collections of states, colleges, military branches, and many other "sets"... what else is there that hasn't been done? Cigarettes? Credit Cards? Oh, and if I use your idea for the decals, you get one of them, free!
Well for a Jeep freek like me, you could do a car for each Jeep Universal, meaning non-Cherokee type. Think of the cars! 1941 Willy's woo woo woo 1945 Willy's CJ-2A 1950 Willy's CJ-3A 1953 Willy's CJ-3B 1955 Willy's CJ-5 1976 AMC CJ-7 1977 AMC CJ-8 1987 Dodge YJ Wrangler 1997 DC TJ Wrangler That's just me, Jeep thing and allmg:
Oh oh, better yet! How about a series of cars based on Route 66? Each car could highlight a state and a famous roadside attraction! I need to get to bed.
I've seen Rte 66 cars.... I think it was a 7-car set. Good ideas though! I think something with cars might have some promise... Addl' thoughts: Airlines? Supermarkets (although I have seen a Safeway car)?
How about different breeds of dogs. Of course you could'nt sell the pitbull car in a lot of cities since they are a prohibited breed. Eric
Dog Breeds <ahem> what a great idea(why didn't I think of that...), provided the Chow Chow is one! Motorcycle manufactures? Bicylce companys? Radio Flyer- the original little red wagon!
How about bodies of water. Bays or Lakes:The SF Bay, Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie,Lake Ontario, Hudson Bay, Chesapeake Bay, Puget Sound. Or rivers:The Columbia River, Mississippi River, Snake River, Colorado River. I'm sure there is other rivers, but I can't think of them now.
What about auto manufacturers? You could have a train of cars for dodge, chevrolet, pontiac, oldsmobile, buick, ford, chrysler etc? regards paul kray
Or train manufacturers? A set of 40 ft boxcars in EMD, GE, FAIRBANKS MORSE, ALCO, BALDWIN, LIMA ? That would certainly look smart paul kray
What about auto manufacturers? You could have a train of cars for BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Holden, Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Lancia etc ?
Well, how about the various NCAA Division I schools and their respective conferences (Big 12, Big 10, Ivy League, SEC, etc)? Do a series on each conference, one school per car (such as for the Big 12- Nebraska, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Teasip U (oops, I meant Texas), Oklahoma State, Norman Reformatory (darn, I meant OU), and so on.). Or since you're out in Cali, one car for each Pac 10 school. Have the school name, make the initials as reporting marks, include the mascot. If possible, the car can be in the school's colors. My nickel, anyway (adjusting for inflation )
National Parks and monuments. Great inventors. How about a series of never-produced N scale locos? You could have the "Have you seen me..." milk-carton format around it... :wink2:
How about Cartoon characters such as those of the Warner Bros classics? (Bugs Bunny, Wile E., Puddy Tat, et. al.). They did do many cartoons with railroad-related gags, after all.
Excellent ideas all !! :shade:  A few I'd be leary of, however, due to copywrite, like the cartoon characters and school logos (in light of UP's recent logo isssues). If I was ever to buy the modern enclosed autoracks, the car idea would look so cool though! Re: famous cars... like a corvette timeline? I like the historical flag idea and the lake idea
I wouldn't worry about the copyrights unless you are going to sell and profit from them... Besides, you are doing it as an artistic thing, and those companies never complained about artists like Andy Warhol duplicating images of Campbell Soup Cans on a pop art painting and selling it for $50,000. Anyway, another idea you can try... Commemorative images of the Space Program. Depict the spacecraft from the Mercury program all the way to the Space Suttle. These ideas remind me of all the commemorative sets in my stamp collection.. :shade:
Let's just say white will be scarce.... mg: buy very light shades of grey could be available well, unless a brilliant idea emerges and I splurge for actual decals (vs this Testors stuff)...
