I was driving home from West VA to PA on Sunday. We were running late so I didn't stop to photograph it, but we crossed a bridge over the Potomac River on the border of Wva and MD on Route 70. There was what appeared to be a small yard at river level, with a tower on the WVA Side. It curved around the bend. Looked like a neat small yard to model. Is this NS or CSX ? Was it Western MD ? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave in Reading, PA
It's CSX's yard in West Virginia across the river from Hancock, Maryland. They run a local out of there down to the sand pits near Berkley Springs, West Virgnia. It's also home to one of, if not the, last armstrong lever towers in the country, "HO." It is a former Baltimore & Ohio yard; the Western Maryland was across the river. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=84130 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=79267 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=79262
