This is a 50(ish) year old film about rescuing a train that is stuck in a snowdrift on Bleath Hill in the north of England. It was produced by British Transport, but it has footage of double-headed steam and snow plow action. Some of you may have seen it before, but it's less than 10 minutes and I found it interesting. Very interesting video. It made me wonder if there was anything on rotary snow plows and I found this thing on the Yukon & White Pass in Alaska: [ame="http://youtube.com/watch?v=1ErKvsaL-5g"]YouTube - The Return of Rotary #1[/ame]
Thanks for the White Pass video, it's fascinating. My wife and I rode the WP&Y in 2000, which was a wonderful experience.
I know they still have the rotaries available for Donner Pass but what do they do there in Alaska normally? Looks like it could be every bit as bad as Donner. I was under the impression that rotaries were still the king of the really bad drifts, but that Donner is about the only place they are left in commercial service. Birken
