My buddy Hans showed up to visit last night with two jugs of wine and a bottle of Irish whiskey. He also brought a Radio scanner. what a pal. Last night we... well lets just say I have a headache today. Today we're listening to the UP trying to figure out what to do about train crews that are dying along the Moffat tunnel route. The dispatcher (dispatch 82) today is a woman and she's co ordinating vehicles to drive out and pick up train crews at rollins and rocky siding. I guess they have to send a high rail out to rocky due to bad road conditions. She's also sending out verbal traffic warnings about track conditions. A hotbox detector just sent out a warning. It's interesting that it has a computerized womans voice. I guess Star Trek got it right. A highrail unit is trying to meet a train at Plain to deal with the hotbox situation. Down on the joint line a switch isn't locking into position. It's an interesting listen.
The military and emergency services long ago realized that a woman’s voice is best / more calming during emergency / tense situations. A man’s voice is best when commands must be followed.
Wow...we are STILL green up here in Ontario. No Snow at all and above 32 degrees days and nights.Every one to the west of us have been hammered with bad weather. My condolences for those snowbound. I wish I was snowbound and had a some model projects to work on.

The biggest problem witht he Moffat Route is the inaccessibility. Very few roads cross the tracks, or even come near them, once you get west of Plainview. The next 13 miles are likely where it is coldest, windiest, and likely deepest snow. Broken rails, snowslides, icy rails, snowdrifts....
