Just dug this up. Saranac Lake Union Station after the restoration in 2000. Anyone have any other pics of station from along the Adirondack division? Happy New Year!
Lovely Station design, thanks for sharing. Sure wish the Central still stopped there instead of those nasty looking little things that invaded.
Yeah, that's pretty. I just read your comments over on the "How did you get interested in your favorite railroad," and we are a generation apart there. The Adirondack branch was the New York Central when I was growing up back there. Man, Boy Scout camp at White Lake, near Woodgate, and all the other towns, Remsen, lakes at Raquette, Saranac, that whole area was just wonderful to live in. I have been away from there for 45 years and I'm sure it has all changed drastically, like that station. Glad to see some restoration going on, and I would love to ride the Adirondack branch on the tourist outfit there now. :teeth:
Rode the Adirondack RR train from Saranac to Lake Placid in 2003. Didn't have a camera but the scene could have been NYC with the two-tone grey painted coaches and F-units for power.
Big Al, welcome back. Haven't seen you here for a while. Anything else you can tell us about the Adirondack Scenic? I finally remembered in my old age that was the name of it now. :teeth:
I know they just got a big chunk of change ($2 million) from the State to re-open the entire line to regular service. Very nice operation with above average tourist line equipment. Majority of the equipment pays homage to NYC, some actual is.
Cool!! I was amazed when I saw the station and snapped the pic I put up in October of 2000. I remember the station like you have it pictured. The first time I ever saw it was in 1990 when I was on a training ride and was heading back home to the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid. I didn't have enough time to go back and take some pics. My driveway was where the Mt Arab (or earlier it was called Pleasant Lake) station used to stand. I miss the house and the trains. And the D&H trains along the Hudson by North Creek.
