You thought what??? I was thinking of fixing a Model power Vandy tender to a Rivarossi 2-8-2. Has anyone tried this? How did you do it and how is it working out for you? RICK
I hung one behind a Trix Pacific. (highly kit bashed one that is) Works great. I ran two wires from the tender to the motor to transmit power.
I wasn't sure if you meant "marriage" or "mirage", which I think are synonymous... ... Unfortunately... I have the MP Mikado with the Vandy tender... but no Riva "Mike" to compare with. I'm guessing that you want to have a good tender with power pick-up. You 'are' buying the tender separately... right? So the question is... 'which' wires from the MP tender get routed to 'which' of the Riva Mike's wires to get the added pick-up? BTW... I have an old Trix 0-6-0... which I want to do the same with.
R I Straw - She's a beauty! Calzephyr - Yes - I will buy it seperately. I run B&O so I can get one already painted. It's not so much the wiring I'm concerned with as I am about how to attach the tender to the loco. That is ..unless there's something I don't know about? RICK
The draw bar that comes with the MP Vanderbilt tender is too short and does not line up with the motor pin on a Rivarossi Locomotive. It needs to be attached forward of its current location and on the bottom of the tender. I would drill and tap a hole and use a small brass screw to hold the draw bar.
RI Straw - Thanks for the photo. I see it's a little more tricky than I thought. How did you reattach the drawbar? Rick
Argh! What a title for a topic! Sure helps open eyes, on a dreary Monday morning. mg: :teeth: Boxcab E50
I used a #55 drill where a 0-80 brass screw would self tap to hold draw bar. Hole is drilled in location slightly in front of inside peg where draw bar was mounted.
Using the exsisting MP draw bar. If closer coupling is required a shorter draw bar can be fabricated. If the MP draw bar is mounted back farther on the tender, the front truck hits it.
After the first post I was going ask that question. Thanks for saving me the trouble. The whole deal looks do-able. Thanks for your help . RICK
