The question of the day is: Does anyone participating here on TrainBoard make custom decals? If not, do you know of anyone who you could recommend?

I started by contacting Micro-Scale custom decals division. A lady by the name of Vickie didn't seem to understand what I was asking for. I provided art work and several examples of what I was looking for, including size/font and letter style. Nothing! After attempting for almost a year to close the deal I gave up.

So, anyone out there want the job?

    Till later!

Check with Dan Pikulski at dansresincasting.com. He's done my LA&L decals, my WNYP decals, and the decals for the Whitcomb switcher. He has a collection of ALPS printers and Adobe Illustrator, so he can do some pretty efficient short run work.

    Randqust and all tuned in,

Thanks for the info. I need an address, e-mail, phone # and/or something to help me redirect my request.

This sounds good and perhaps my private varnish will get some I.D. Thanks again!

This fellow has a very small shop, thus little overhead...plus I have not faced minimum quantities. Everything is done from your artwork and you prove everything before final product.

I used a company called Solid Design. They advertise in MR magazine. I got a sheet of 52 decals for 2 bay hoppers with individual road numbers for about $102.00. Most of the cost is for set up and artwork if needed. In my Solid Design order I only had 24 cars to do so one sheet was more than sufficient. If I wanted two sheets of decals the second sheet would have been an additional $14.00. That would do 102 cars for $116.00. Very reasonable I think so if you can get others to either go in with you or your can sell the extra decals. I also used Rail Graphics on other decals. They were cheaper but they already had the decals in HO and just reduced the HO artwork to N scale so set up and artwork costs were minimal. This might be another way to go.

Ok, even I don't understand what you're looking for! First you say you supplied art, but then you say you supplied "examples of what you are looking for", "fonts", etc.. Huh? If you already had artwork that's ready to be printed (art done in a vector graphics program like CorelDraw or Illustrator, colors trapped, overprints done, Pantone or CMYK colors selected, or else a paint chip to match to), you shouldn't have to supply "examples" of anything - art is art. Knowing Vickie and Microscale quite well, I don't know how something like that would drag on for a year, and force you to give up, unless you couldn't agree on pricing or something. It might help if you were a bit clearer in regards to what you supplied, and what you wanted done. And FWIW, it's not Micro-Scale, Micro Scale, or MicroScale...just Microscale.

    Custom Decals

Me thinks I may have touched a nerve or two. I will send you a private e-mail going over what happened. Simply, I don't expect you to understand what I sent Vicki, or what I was asking for as I haven't spelled it out here. It was not my intention to air all the dirty laundry here in public. Simply to say, I tried, it didn't work as we didn't seem to connect. It never did have anything to do with price. A year later I gave up. Fair enough???

Now does anyone else want the job?

    Regarding this posting and thread.

I thought you all might like to know that Vickie has gotten back in touch with me and we are attempting to work something out. However, and there's almost always a "However". I will be working with someone else to get a limited supply of the decals. Later I will contact Vickie and provide her with a sample of what I'm wanting in order to obtain a larger quanity of the decals.

I might as well break other news here. Old, BarstowRick is on the move and headed for Boise, Idaho. I can hear the locals up on that part of the plain saying, "Oh, No not another Californian", I hope he doesn't talk like their governator. Grin! So, the ultimate decal order will be placed sometime after I get settled near my daughter and grandkids.

So, to all a good weekend and a great week. Don't forget to do the day light savings tango with your clocks. Back to you later with news as it breaks.

Now to the person to whom wrote me a private e-mail offering to provide me with a limited number of decals. AAAARGh, I can't believe I did this, I deleted your e-mail. My error. So, I would appreciate hearing from you again. Sorry about that!

A little sensitive are we? Lighten up a little bit and try helping the guy out rather than get condescending about it. If you know Vicki then help him get in touch with her. Correcting him on his spelling of "Microscale" or giving him grief about his lack of specific information isn't helping fix the problem. :)

Actually, he already has been helped - behind-the-scenes by myself (Vickie contacting him after his posting wasn't coincidence), and by another individual, as he said. So the matter is taken care of, IMHO. And as far as the Microscale name, it's been a pet peeve of mine (one of many) for a long time, and I don't see why we shouldn't try to be correct when it comes to it...or anything else, for that matter.

    Setting the record straight!

For the record, I haven't been helped yet as I haven't placed an order.
Nor has Mr. SP 8299, been of any help in this matter.

Vickie did respond to an E-mail I had sent her where I had cancelled the order. She did hear of my post here on TB and I'm sure Mr. SP 8299 had something to do with it. Mr SP 8299 will or should be reading a private e-mail from me.

Do understand that everything is fine between Vickie and I and remember I said originally "We could not connect" and there are undisclosed reasons for that. That by my saying "We" I share the blame. Dig?

For the record SP 8299 didn't, he did not help the situation.

Does anyone else want the job of producing, for me, some Custom Decals? Don't volunteer all at once.
