Well, out here I think we all knew it was coming. Nebkota wants to abandon from Chadron, Ne to Rushville, Ne. This is right on the heels of the Rushville to Merrimen, Ne abandonment. This will leave Nebkota with just the Chadron yard and trackage rights on DM&E from Chadron to Crawford, Ne. I guess the plus side is the Nebraska Game and Parks will move right in and turn the ROW into the Cowboy Trail. They basicly were serving two elevators. Farmers Co-Op (the former owners of Nebkota) and West Plains Grain (the current owners of Nebkota). Co-Op has a unit train load out in Hemingford (on the BNSF) and has been trucking grain from Hay Springs to Hemingford. West Plains has and elevator in Chadron that they can load out of. So basicly no customers. When we were still farming we could put put wheat on a semi have it hauled 300-400 miles across Nebraska to Fremont, pay the trucker, and still make more money than we could hauling wheat 2 miles to Rushville. Such is life in the farm world. As far as power I think they have three SD-9's. Adam
yep another one is gone. Shortlines are dissapearing. Nebkota was cool. Since Intermountian has FP9's? or is it 7's I think it would be a neat project for n scale.
Pictures from Rushville Here are some pictures from Rushville, Ne of the destruction of the Nebkota. Some of the rail that was taken up from Merriman to Rushville. BNSF Gondola's, most likely getting ready to be loaded with rail. (Didn't think I would ever see a BNSF swoosh in Rushville, NE) Sounds like soon there will be no rail in Rushville. That is until DM&E decides to run a coal line through. :wink2: I shouldn't start rumors like that, it's just mean!!!!
