I really liked the look of the micron art bridge on Jürg's module. So, I ordered one. The kit is really well designed and goes together quickly. The parts are positioned on the fret in a nice way to minimize cutting and assembly time. I could have done a better job with filling and filing the tabs. John Cubbin's abutment design is also genius, so I ordered them too. Stay tuned:shade:
Might as well make it a very small layout, kind of like the Micro Challenge layouts they used to do on one of the other train forums. They used to set goals to make the layout a specific size or smaller, like say, the size of a 20 gallon aquarium, or the size of a desk drawer. They would also have criteria of at least 1 loop for running, and 2 sidings for a supplier and a customer, and a 3 or 6 month deadline to be finished. Other criteria would be that it had to have a bridge, water, a tunnel, and a freight station. Those guys would even be doing these Micro Challenge layouts in N or even HOnX and be posting pictures of their progress every week. They did some fantastic work, and fit it in super small places. Think of what you can do if you do it in Z, and you don't need to spend much money because it is so small. Also, when done you will have a diorama with lots of different design elements in it, that can give you way more than one or to perspectives for photo shots like a normal diorama, think 10-20 different places to take pictures of your work in an 18" x 24" layout with handlaid code 40 rail! Are you up for the Challenge?
It's actually as far as I'm going to go with it. The base paint is different and varying coats of rust, tarnished black, dirt, and earth. I followed that up with some alcohol and burnt umber paint. I would like to know how John gets his metallic look with his version of this.
