I am doing a research paper on The Use Personal Computers for Model RailRoad layout control and automation. What I have discovered so far is that there is not allot of published (traditional book or online) on the topic. Now when I say online....I am looking for a quoatable source. I can still use online sources such as Trainboard for overall knowledge on the subject but not for a quaoatable source. I have ordered some DCC books less the Digitrax Big Book as it is hard to find and very pricey right now. This is the first research paper I have done in 12 years ....my brain is rusty
MR ran the C/MRI series a (long) while back: The Computer - Model Railroad Interface. It ran over the course of about 2 years I think, when the state of the art was an 8086 or maybe even before that...! One current interface is the JMRI software that interfaces with Digitrax to allow programming of decoders and operation of signals over the line. A google search should turn it up... Andrew
For a quoteable source, look for a book by Dr. Bruce Chubb called Build Your Own Universal Computer Interface. Dr. Chubb is the creator of the C/MRI system, and the book above is basically a description of C/MRI, though perhaps with a little less emphasis on model railroading. Dr. Chubb has also published several books on the C/MRI system, but they are only available direct from Dr. Chubb's JLC enterprises http://www.jlcenterprises.net/. If you have any questions on JMRI, send me a PM, and I'll try to answer any questions you have (as one of the JMRI authors). Paul
Thanks for the info. I just started experimenting with JMRI....I am starting the learning curve. Also have been playing with Winlok 2.1, and Train Controller 5.8
