I had a Digitrax Big boy as my first DCC system years ago and although I don't yet have my DCC system yet I can recommend Digitrax as a company who provides excellent service and is very forward thinking. Myself this time around I have narrowed my choice down to CVP easy DCC c/w Extender which is above your budget and the NCE power Cab. I asked about these systems in another topic on this forum and both have recieved positive responces. Shaun
I can hardly wait until our "par" dollar is actually worth par so I can afford a dcc system A starter kit here is still over 300 dollars. Maybe by next spring lol. In the meantime you guys are providing a lot of good information. Thanks guys
Stephen, Try Canadian Express Lines (Dave Cool) - out of Ontario. He has reasonable prices (below Walthers list) and I believehis last price on the Zephyr was about $170. If you google him you should find it, if not send me a PM and I'll give you his email address. Andrew
I went down this road in 2002. I started off w/ a Digitrax Super Empire system. In January 2006 I upgraded to a Digitrax Super Chief Radio. I had my Empire DT400 cab converted to radio and also added a small UT4-R cab. Based on everything I researched, I would say a Digitrax or NCE system would be the way to go. In all fairness to Atlas, MRC, and other systems, they may have come a long way since I researched them years ago. The bottom line is you (IMHO) are making a good move to DCC. I resisted. Once I converted, I can only say that I look back on my old DC block system as "flat earth". Enjoy whatever rig you wind up with. Your railroading life is about to change for the better.
