Can I approximate a HO decal to be roughly double the size (height and width - as in locomotive striping) of N scale decals? Guessing the answer is yes...

87/160= 54% ho is that much larger. well i edit and edit this and my quote just doesn't come out right. i guess you get the drift.

davido is correct; N is 54 percent of H0 scale. But if you are copying or resizing, be sure to measure. I have found errors caused by refractive properties of the glass in the copier. There can be other errors, too. So, 54.375 percent is correct, but it is best to measure, to be sure about the location or size of the object.

thanks all.. I'm needing some larger decals for my DD40 projects, guess I'll just need to bring the shell in with me to DMT to be sure.

So far, my definate choices for repaint are:

Amtrak Ph4 - proto 1997+ (with four matching bachmann full domes)
    MKT - (mix)
SP - proto (leaning towards bloody nose variety)

and I'm still contemplating the final 2 locos:
    Amtrak - proto 1991
    American Freedom
    ATSF - proto warbonnet
    ATSF (mix)
    Conrail - (mix)
    CSX/NS - (obviously mix)
    WP - (mix)

    * proto = as close as I can get the decals to match up to a DD40 chassis
