God only knows what she was thinking. Is it really worth it? If your 5 minutes late to the daycare, and another 5 to work, was it really worth the lifes of your two children?!?! Not to mention your two son's who had to live thru it and be scarred for life! It makes no sense.
Racing with a train Too bad the young kids had to pay with their lives for their mothers stupidity. The public is of the opinion that a train can stop as quickly as a car so think that if they cut in front of the train it will stop to keep from hitting them. At 55 miles per hour it takes the average freight train over a mile to stop. YOU LOSE every time when colliding with a train. Stop and think who is in your car before racing the train to the crossing.
To this day I cannot beleive what some people will do and the insainaty involved, like limmings to the sea. And yes this is truely tragic the innocent pay for the guilty, What was she thinking? My hart goes out to the surviveing children and father and the image and memory they will carry with them forever. The same can be said for the train crews involved, everyone is wonded and no one goes unscathed. I have been involved with OL for over 12 years and at times it seems to be the same story different day, Yes they hear you they just don't think it will be them. Eather it falls on deaf ears or you are preaching to the chior. Maybe one day people will get it and things like this will be a thing of the past, but I doubt it. A fellow railfan sent this to me yesterday. Disgusting video and the mother should go to prison for her actions. This is not just an "accident" or "jumping gates" thinking a train isn't coming. This is a purposed, viscious act that killed two people and it's about time we start making people accountable for their actions. The really stupid part is the train was actually moving along pretty fast! Why not wait two minutes and you're on your way? Not like it was a coal drag that was gonna take 15 minutes or something. (not that there is any excuse for this, but anyway)
"...she is a good mother..." "She was a very loving mother." If those statements were remotely true, two children would still be alive. Two innocent children are dead as a result of her actions. Life in prison is not long anough.
mg: I had a mini-van until earlier this year when it got totaled in a tangle with a Mitsubishi Galant. I can only imagine the added damage that would have happened if it had been a freight train. In my case, nobody was hurt or killed in either vehicle. This is awful. My heart goes out to the two boys, the memory of the two girls, and the train crews, as well as the first responders.
Certainly looks like jailtime to me. I hope those other kids fully recover and are placed in the care of people who will raise them with care.
