Here is my first foray into virtual modeling before production. Nothing to physically show for it yet, but it is pretty cool.

Always an interesting car. Are you going to use a 3d printer?

I will be trying two methods, a RPM for a plastic master and a CNC for an aluminum master.

Wow! Let us know how it goes! Especially the trainsition from modeling software to CNC software.

You will find that there is infinite demand for products if you listen to the customers!

By the by, ahhem!, we sure could use an SP prototype caboose! :tb-cool:

    Wonderful model.

I too am curious about the rendering. 3D studio?

It's a little angular, your polys could use some smoothing, but I am sure an effect like smoothing on a drawing would not cary over to a model.

    Please keep posting more.

OK, Here are the results from virtual modeling. The brass bottle in the background is HO and the blue bottle in the foreground is the N-Scale master. Now ready for Mold Making.

How did you make the masters, Bob? 3D printer, CNC, or by hand?

This master was done on a Rapid Prototype Machine (RPM) for resin casting. I am working now with the same files using MasterCAM X2 to program a CNC which I will also try making a master from an aluminum or a half-hard brass billet. These will be used to explore metal castings.

I am finding this so kewl to integrate computers, trains and manufacturing.

    Howdy Bob,

I don't see any photos but follow what you are saying. Some guys seem to have all the fun. The best of luck to you. Looks like you already have some great products.

    Regards,
    Jim

I wonder what you can do with a CNC and "Poser" :D
