Howdy, The other thread is interesting. I've just started to build. Other thread raised some concern as I've acquired several Walthers kits for assembly. Cornerstone Series Kit: Co-Op Storage Shed Cornerstone Series Kit: State Line Farm Supply Cornerstone Series Kit: Goldenflame Fuel Co. and seems some minor stuff Thought perhaps they would be reasonably easy. Will likely assemble them in above order. We just finished one of the Cornerstone 3 in 1 kits. In spite of our errors it went together all right. Still may paint and weather a bit. Also have in the stash: Branchline N 181-844 School House I really like the looks of the wood buildings but got the impression the plastic structures were easier to assemble? Have a Thanks, Jim
Easiest may be one of the Model Power kits. What they call the "General Electric", or Chemical Factory may be the most kitbashed. The Heljan "Bakery-Engine House" may have the most variation with the same building with different decals. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but what kits are likely to be seen on most any Nscale layout?
Howdy Glenn. Thanks for the post, good info indeed. Perhaps some of the other guys will respond. Think I'll acquire the Atlas kits BARB'S BUNGALOW and Kate's Colonial Home. They seem reasonable. I have the built up versions. Regards, Jim
Just a thought: A few companies make paper models. In the short run they might be the way to start. Other than that scratch build. Then the effort is not to follow directions but to design it yourself and get the experiance with the medium.
1. Stay away from wood laser kits if you want simple. 2. I would agree that any of the Model Power kits fit your stated requirements. Parts come in different colors on many and there are not too many parts. Just one tip- Make sure that you are not sloppy with the glue and that your joints are sealed and square. You will have a fine looking building when finished.
Jim, If they are anything like the new depots, I would stick with the built ups. That was one of the hardest kits I have assembled - including laser cut wood structures. Eric
Easy: New River Mining and Ice House Walther's New River Mining and Ice House were both extremely easy to assemble, required no intermediate or advanced skills, and produced excellent results - I'd recommend either of these even to a first-time kit builder. --Bryan
