It is that time of year folks and scams abound. Recieved a notice from PayPal, or somebody representing PayPal, that there had been some attempts to access my account from a foreign IP address. Now the notice when opened looks genuine and I cannot detect anything out of the normal on the official, or should I say O fish al, document. However when you click on the link to go to the security center you will get to a screen that requires you to verify your identity with address, credit card info. ect.
Whoa Nelly. Why the 3rd degree just to get to the security center? Hmm big suspect question mark. I was suspicious when I opened the mail, got more suspicious when I saw that and declined. What I did do was simply fire back a reply to the original letter informing the party whether legit or false, that I considered the request suspect, that I haven't used PayPal since back in ought 3, and any attempt to access my account is suspect, false, and obviously illegal as all get out. Now I will carefully check my credit card statements to make sure all is in order, and since I rarely use it any thing will standout quickly. I know that a number of you folks use PayPal however I just don't have a trust factor that rates too high for any third party organization handling money or data. PayPal has been porous before in consumers data getting to the wrong hands and they are:tb-frown: only as honest as the people they employ. If I have to make an online purchase I much prefer dealing with a retailers secure, encrypted online site, than through a third party.

This happens ever 3 weeks or so . Because of that I consider all un-expected eMails from eBay , and Paypal to be fraud , and copy the properties , attach them to the eMail , and forward them to spam@ebay.com , or spam@paypal.com . This is only one of the reasons I hate people .

I simply set up a filter, that sends any mails with that word in subject, straight to trash.

This happens frequently. 99 times out of 100 such a message lands in my SPAM folder because it was sent out to a mail list of some sort. A genuine notice would be sent only to you. Furthermore, PayPal, EBay, or any other legitimate business would not ask for the kind of info you listed. They already have that and only need your sign-on ID and password to know who you are. For me those messages are an automatic "hie delete" items.

no, No, NO!!! Do not open, reply, or acknowledge ANY such email. 1) All they are looking for is your login data and password. PERIOD!! There is NOTHING wrong with any account that is mentioned in the email. 2) DO NOT REPLY to the email in ANY way. If you reply, the sender now knows that he has an active email address, and can pass your email address along to other phishers/spammers, so that they can go to work on you. 3) Forward(without opening) ANY suspicious emails to spoof@ebay.com(for eBay emails) or spoof@paypal.com(for PayPal emails)
I've been using PayPal at eBay for as long as I've been using eBay and have yet to have a problem that wasn't my own fault. The only problem I have ever had was when I got an offer that was too good to be true. I swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker! And promptly found out that the offer "Was too good to be true!" Another lesson in the School of Hard Knocks.

Some of these are sent by spam robots. I think that's why I occasionally get emails for natural breast augmentation.

I did forward the E-mail to PayPal and reported the activity. This is one of the ones that my spam filter caught anyway but since my spam filter does catch legitimate mail sometimes I have the option to look at it and make that decision myself rather than an auto delete. And by the way I did not open anything with my real password but a phoney one. The real test was when it open up on the false entry to the data screen. The real PayPal would have denied me entry with the wrong info. entered.

When you get on the Tennessee Valley FCU spam/scam/phish list you will welcome a good old eBay or PayPal spoof. I feel like replying and saying FCU too. But I refrain and forward them to my ISP's "this is spam" address. Like that does any good. :tb-mad:

I've gotten the same email and do not have a paypal account. Ebay tells that all messages from them are sent to our ebay mail box.
