Got a call from Chuck and saw a note on the Wig-Wag site. That noise you hear is the vacuum sucking our wallets dry!!
Worst fears... All big ticket items arriving at the same time. Kato GS-4 with 10 Morning Daylight cars Athearn Big Boy Atlas GP-30s (may have been delayed til March, whew!) Intermountain FP-7... hopefully delayed too.
I'm glad my BigBoy #4001 isn't arriving till March...thank gawd for that! With the GS4 + 10 car passenger set shipping on Friday, I think the wallet would have imploded!
Fortunately, I passed on the Daylight deal (at least for now). I'm still dreading the Walthers Y3 arrival sometime soon, as well as the next round of FP45s.
On the Big Boy tape I have, it said that Union Pacific had to rebuild their mainline to accommodate the Big Boys. Curves were straightened and switch sizes were increased. Anyone redoing their layout for the new Big Boys? :tb-biggrin:
Correction...... Big Boy's Shipped!!!! I walked in to the shop today to find both Daylight Sets and BigBoy's. We have customers that had both reserved, expecting them to come about a month apart. OUCH!!
I would love to get a big boy and a challenger, but right now my pocketbook is smashed with all my needs (or better, wants) for my SP roster. Once I start on that "dream layout" I'll probably kick myself for not gettting them, since it will have some UP trackage. I'm going to hold out for the IM cab forward announcement (sometime) and target my funds for a few of those.
Y3's and the next run of 0-8-0's are now pushed back to July. I think they decided they better get somebody on QC before they ship out another batch of steam.
Nope, I had to re-lay curves for the Yellowstone last year. Little locomomtives such as the BigBoy and other small steam ought to run fine. I wanted to put a wink in here, but it's kicking my butt. I've passed on the BigBoy as I can't quite (barely) justify it in an N&W steam layout. I did jump on the GG1 preorder bandwagon and hope that it is delayed a few months as the Y3's from Walthers are crowding it and my budget. I haven't had this problem in years! Bob
I ordered the 4024, now I am wishing I had ordered the 4001 for the delay...but nice problem to have....should look great next to my 3977. Now if they would just make the 844 in N scale.
I was not going to get one since I have some challengers (4-6-6-4), but after the excellent photos on the A forum, and seeing that they are selling for only $259, I think I have to get a couple Big Boys.
YIKES! I forgot about this one! I didn't order one but was looking forward to getting one if the kinks from the first run have been worked out. Who's selling Athearn Big Boys that cheap?
In my teens I dreamed of having these locos. Now? Between the cost and increased number of issues with them I will pass though I did order one SP Daylight.
$259 is not bad for a big boy. especially considering it has DCC & sound too. heck, the old con-cor's were going for $300.00 & up for someone's old used and a more crude Big Boy, also without DCC and without sound. and problems? they just came out! what problems? I've had no problems with any of my Ahtearn challengers.
My first run Challenger has just been returned to Athearn for the 4th time. Same problem each time, fried decoder
Totally agree... but since I've reserved for ~$300.00... I'm wondering how someone has been able to beat that price by about $40.00. After all at $300.00 that is about 30% below the $425.00 MSRP. What you're claiming is 40% below MSRP... essentially wholesale. Granted... I'm going to purchase the one I've already reserved... but any future purchases sure would look nicer at a lower price.
What I'm claiming? almost sounds like passive agressive for calling me a lair. :tb-wink:and after I PM'ed you the place selling them for $259.:tb-confused: here, I just spent 30 seconds searching the internet for Athearn N big boys under $300: Toy train heaven has them at $284.74 http://www.toytrainheaven.com/.sc/ms/cat/N Locomotives Athearn--4-8-8-4 Big Boy Wholesale trains has them at $269.99: http://www.wholesaletrains.com/NProducts2.asp?Scale=N&Item=bb4884ath RC SLot has them for $266.21 http://www.rcslot.com/pc-radio-control-slot-cars/ATH11828.html and if you have purchased over $200.00 from Wholesaletrains.com before, you are a member and members can sign in to see a $10.00 savings. = $259.99
BIG-BOYS are being shipped?!? Shucks they are HERE! I received mine Wednesday. Will have it running this weekend. Got the undecorated issue. Trying to figure out the explanation for the INDIANA RAILWAY having a BIG-BOY. HMMMMMMMMM
