I came across this one today. figured some might find it interesting. Links i found lots of stuff I either had or would dream about while lookking at their catalog. I was looking for a picture of a NYC crane car I still have on HO. I thought it was made by AHM, but it turned out to be Life Like. Crane Car
That is awesome. My very first locomotive when I was a kid was the Tyco Alco Century 430 diesel in the Canadiana paint scheme. Seeing it on that sight sure brought back memories. Hmmm, I do have that undecorated Proto 2000 BL2 that I have been looking for a paint scheme for...............
Man, what a trip down memory lane. I had a lot of Tyco stuff as a "ute". What really got me was the US-1 Trucking stuff! I had that setup with the railroad crossing...it was fantastic! You would pull past the "turnout" and back in and it would unhitch the truck and you would go, make a few laps, then back in and connect and go. Great stuff! The funniest story personally, though, lies with the Fedex van they offered as an add-on. A Christmas gift from my uncle, it turned out to be DEFINITIVE proof that Santa Claus, well, you know. (let's just say he has a questionable ability to produce positive identification) I hadn't "believed" for a couple of years, but my parents had the charade going where until I PROVED to them that Santa (well, you know...I still can't admit it's true!!! hehe), I could not express publicly to the contrary. Every time I submitted evidence, they had some explaination to shoot it down. So, my hard core evidence was...I got the electric trucking set from "Santa", but my uncle gave me the van later in the morning....there was NO WAY he could have known Santa would bring me that set unless, well...you know. That was my proof. Thank goodness I didn't become a lawyer!!! hehe Thanks for sharing!
Talk about memories. It wasn't a Christmas morning when I was a kid, unless there was a Tyco box under the tree!
For me, it was Lionel and American Flyer. Every Fall, anticipation of the Sears and Montgomery Ward Christmas catalogs. Boxcab E50
My first train was a hand-me-down, 1948 Gilbert-American Flyer set. 3 engines. Two 4-6-2's and one Mikado. The set was trashed. We beat the dang thing to death. Something I have always regretted. My first HO trains as a teenager were TYCO's. Various stuff we ordered from Sears catalogs. Set up ovals around the attic in our Parent's house. I took that TYCO set and tried to ballast the track using old coffee grounds. LOOKED GREAT for about a week until the mold set in. I make no apologies for the stupidity of my youth!!! That first train and a couple of 1964 or 65 Model Railroaders my Dad purchased for me got me hooked. It gained me a hobby I love.
