What other engines would have pulled the Broadway Limited passenger train? I really dont want the new engine that Kato is comming out with due to the fact that I have no cat wiring for my tracks. What Diesel locomotives would have pulled the passenger train also so I can look for them.
    Thanks

Common sense tells me that with the GG-1 only pulling the Broadway as far as Harrisburg, that the appropriate diesels will also be released. E units?

Definitely E units. I read something a while back that said the PRR even tried Baldwin Sharks at one point, but after just a few days, they realized the Sharks weren't gonna cut it---kept breaking down, or something.

The Broadway ran for so many years, I think you can probably put just about anything you want up front, and on any given day, it would have been correct. I think I am going to use some PAs. I'd bet even F units were used at some point...

Run whatever you think looks best...

E7's, then E8's were the primary diesels. Also K4's and M1's for steam.

For steam locomotives the Pennsy at various times used K4, 4-6-2 Pacifics (double headed), M1, 4-8-2 Mountains and T1, 4-4-4-4 duplex drives on the Broadway Limited.

For diesel locomotives the Pennsy tried most all of their newly purchased passenger units. These included Baldwin Centipedes Pairs, and A-B-A sets of Passenger Sharks, A-B-A sets of Alco PA2s and PB2s, A-B-A sets of EMD E7As and E7Bs, A-A-A sets of EMD E8As,(The Pennsy didn't buy any E8Bs), and even A-B-A sets of Fairbanks Morse Erie Builts. The E7s and E8s eventually became the most commonly used power. The diesels were delivered painted Brunswick Green with Gold Leaf stripes and lettering. Starting in 1952 they were gradually repainted in Tuscan Red with Buff stripes and lettering. The Centipedes and Erie Builts were relegated to freight service and remained in Brunswick Green.

Pennsy’s F units did not have steam generators or passenger gearing and weren’t normally used in passenger service. The Pennsy’s few FP7 dual service locomotives were seldom actually used in passenger service.

Would the E units always have been green livery, or might they have used the brown also?
