DCC Guru John Wallis has written a book on the DCC Operating specs for the Derby City Express N Scale Convention. I don't pretend to understand 90% of it, but here is a link for all you DCC geeks out there. http://www.trainweb.org/nrmrc/DCE_DCC_Spec_Final.pdf
I never realized there were "DCC Geeks." What is the counterpart, DC Freaks? Running both I suppose that makes me Geeky-Freaky, somewhat akin to ACey-DCey? Ben
I took a quick look at this document and it makes for fascinating reading. When you have such a large and complex system, the infrastructure is necessarily complex. Many things that you can do by trial and error for a small layout are a real challenge on this scale. what boggles my mind is that all of this planning is for a temporary layout that will be up and running for just a short time. I am definitely a technology geek - I have a PhD in computer science and work in the artificial intelligence field. However, after spending all day working with complex systems, I usually just enjoy watching my trains run around my layout
Viewing the popularity of increasingly complex layounts, I would guess that there is a growing group of "DC Geeks" also.
Fascinating read! It is a real eye-opener for me to see the level of planning and organization that goes into such a big layout. It makes me appreciate all the helpful hands (and minds) that make it happen even mnore! I can't wait to see the layout myself... Cheers Dirk
