Anyone have the schematic showing how to dis-assemble an Atlas B23-7 that they could scan in (or link to a scan)? I just can't seem to pop the top EDIT - It's off, finally!! Thanks all for the help [ 24. November 2004, 00:39: Message edited by: nscale_lover ]
Mike: Go to the Atlas site and go to N scale parts. To select the parts, you have to look at the assembly diagram. That requires a download of the sheet you are looking for. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to see it. Hope this helps.
right, it shows the breakdown, but not in which order for removal... i.e. what part comes off first so I can get to the light board I can't find any small clips that usually hold on a shell and it seems like the cab section might come off first. I don't want to pull any harder in fear that I might break something
I think you arecorrect. I would think that the whole shell would lift off exposing the light board, but maybe not. I don't have my engines with me now.
Try plan B: unhook the stanchions from the cab and gently pry up both sides of the cab at the same time. There are little notches on the sill in the diagram and you may need to unlatch those tabs first. When the cab is free, then the rest can be worked off as normal. There is at least the RS-11 that must be taken apart that way and at least the diagram sheet for that has instructions to do so.
Take off the shell .. Take off the sill Take off the fuel tank Loosen the screws on both ends Gently pry the frame apart .. Remove the light board .. Its pretty simple .. there is enough play in the frame to allow that
After closer inspection, it looks like the cab itself has 4 clips (stanchions?) to push in to release it... before you can remove the shell. I tried a bit last night to fiddle with it with a small screwdriver, but it looks like I'll need some additional inserts to hold them all in simultaneously while I jiggle the cab off. Then I'll take a look-see and see how the main shell comes off (hopefully without much additional problems).
When I installed my decoder I was able to remove the entire shell all at once. Just takes a little pull but should come off pretty easy. I always start at the back over the rear trucks and then the cab doesn't start to come apart. Hope this helps. Bryan
Mike - it is REALLY quite simple. REMOVE THE FUEL TANK - holding the locomotve in one hand - I used my left one - firmly grip the frame portion that fit into the fuel tank and PULL - straight away - the frame with trucks willl come lose real quick - all of mine did - and I'm sure yours will as well. Then losen the screws that hold the frame together - and pop out the light board. Done Toots
Ok, I'll try pulling a bit more tonight. So when I grab the frame, is it the sill or the main body that I'm pulling on? And do I need to squeeze inwards (if it's the frame)? It looks like there's 2 prongs towards the aft end on the frame. EDIT - got it off using the "pull straight up" method, thanks! [ 24. November 2004, 19:49: Message edited by: nscale_lover ]
