Took my old 14'x4' layout in my garage down. It was my first N scale layout and I just wasn't happy with it. Besides, I use my garage to build stuff, and IMO, having an N scale layout in the garage that is actually used as a garage isn't a good idea.

Going to build a "U" shaped layout in my computer room, and I have some ideas, but I'd rather see what you guys have done first.

    Thanks

    Here is mine.

THE layout plans for "THE Railroad." (Fantasy Themed)

    * Sorry for the bad copies. I had to resize them *

I freelance...so no rhyme or reason to it...I just like THE
    way it flows.

Its all on 6 HC doors...or portions thereof...and in a
gutted 16' travel travel trailer. Its all flat...no
hills...no grades. One tunnel...by "THE Lake".

Ohhhh and THE grandkids just love it btw.

    There are some pics here...

    And more here...

Only thing I am still struggling with is how to do "THE
Yard"...but I hope to have "THE" problem solved soon...LOL.

I'll post the "Grey and Grandure I" Tuesday afternoon. In a larger room it might be what you seek. A "U" shape with lots of room for running, switching, and storage / yard.

    another thought...

Another point to consider is that if you use a U shaped shelf layout and mount it high enough (mid chest to shoulder height) there is still plenty of room under it for a sofa, desk, TV, or whatever. As long as your shelf depth does not exceed your arms reach you'll be ok. With a loop on both ends you can still do continuous running with lots of switching in between.

This is kind of my plan.

It'll be 8'6" total width. One leg of the "U" will be 42" inches wide, the other will be 30," and it'll be 7ft long. At no point will I need to reach more than 30" over the layout.

There will be two separate towns, and one town will be 4" higher than the other. I'd like to have two yards with intermodal yards as well. Continuous running is required, even though the radius on my 30" leg will be kind of tight. I'm also trying to figure out how to get a non scenicked lower level yard/interchange/staging area figured in as well.

Keep them coming. I may not use any of these, but I like to see what others have done. Most of you are far more skilled at this than I am.

Here's the plan for my 129" x 112" office. It's U shaped with a stub end yard in the closet. Minimum radius is 15". Double Track mainline run of 570". Three tracks hidden staging.

I took the closet doors off and built a desk into it.

The roadbed is 52" above the floor. The frame is supported by homemade wall brackets, raised up high enough to roll a few workbenches and drawers underneath.

I like just about everything with this layout it so far. The one exception is that I built a light hood 24" above the layout and it is a tight squeeze working between the hood and the roadbed.

The first Grey and Grandure here was a "U" shaped layout with two railroads. There was the "Grey and Grandure". It was a short-line built in the Grandure Valley and connecting with a class one (GN) road at Grandure. The class one ran through the mountians around the grandure valley.

While hard to visualize from the drawing from the yard at Grandure the GandG deceded into the valley and the class one road acended into the mountains. The GandG had lots of industries, switching and was opperated as a point to point though there was a complete loop for continous running. The class one was designed for continous running of two trains, (using sidings).

    Nice work.

My plan is very similar, and its a very similar sized layout.

    Thanks.

Probably won't fit in your garage and certainly not in you computer room. Be careful what you ask for...
