I knew if I quit buying and selling beacuse of Ebay's new rules, ie no checks or money order, foolish feedback rules etc this would happen: eBay cuts jobs, buys Bill Me Later, Danish websites (AFP) by AFP: Yahoo! Tech Al
"They've been losing customers for awhile." said analyst Rob Enderle of Silicon Valley's Enderle Group. "They've been losing sellers and people are not buying in the current economic climate." Boy is that a crook ! Its because of their policies...plain and simple!!!! People have $$ and would buy. I hope other online auction sites bury DABAY...LOL
Probably the dumbest evaluation eBay has ever made. First, my experience in recesssions and economic downturns is that people buy less retail, and more discount plans, i.e. mail order, auctions, private sales, swap meets, to keep up their hobby and have things to do if they are unemployed. The reason to me is that they are taking the starch out from the sellers, and even me, will only sell if really need to now, as they have discontinued seller feedback about buyers. I have had slow payers, whiners, complainers, and people I had to block off in my last year of sales, but now no feedback. I am fed up with them, but they still have the numbers, so I only sell what I have to when I have to. Ken "FloridaBoy" Willaman
I hope the layoff includes the programmers who keep changing the search feature and the appearance of pages. 3 to 4 inches between lines for some items. My attention span gets tested. I opt out of the new search format but I keep getting opted back. The result of deleting cookies I suppose. I don't even enjoy looking anymore, much less buying anything. Ben
Boy, 'aint that the truth!! I've written them many nastygrams telling them that their new format stinks. It's just not worth the hastle anymore. Guess I'll be searching here (trainboard) and elswhere for good online prices. Brian
I don't do business with EBay at all anymore. Their continually changing policies have made it harder and harder for the potential buyer to communicate with the seller of an item. And that 'use PayPal only' rule of theirs sucks. They've lost my information TWICE! No telling where it ended up. You haven't had real fun until you've changed all your accounts and credit cards because of some butterfingered data entry operator.
To quote Charlie Dressell, onetime Brooklyn Dodgers manager: eBay? Is eBay still on the 'Net? It was fun at first, but shopping on the Bay has become a major hassle anymore.
My daydream is that Google will build a superior auction site with the corporate culture we have come to appreciate from google.
Well, it was fun for a long while. Too bad ebay completely blew it. At least I got to sell most of my cra... er... stuff. You used to be able to win a $3 or $4 auction, and add couple of dollars for postage, and by next week, you would have a new freight car or whatever. Dream over. Return to work.
As has selling. Continual inane meddling with vendors, we who actually bring in the money they survive on, has become intolerable. They remind me of Captain Smith and the Titanic, apparently believing their ship is unsinkable. Meanwhile, it's obviously steadily taking on water. eBay stock has been in a near constant decline since late 2004. Mad Money host Jim Cramer (MSNBC) said “eBay has lost touch with reality.” Called this company “hapless.” And urged investors to stay away from eBay. http://www.cnbc.com/id/15838459 More reading? That's a myth I'm afraid; the Titanic was never described as "unsinkable" until after she sank. This myth's roots appear to be a New York Times article, which quoted Philip A.S. Franklin, Vice President of the White Star Line on the 16th April 1912 as saying, when informed of the sinking: "I thought her unsinkable and I based by [sic] opinion on the best expert advice available. I do not understand it." And I can't say "They remind me of Nero, fiddling while Rome burned" because that's another myth - Rome burned long before the fiddle was even invented. I think eBay is going to be Ebye-Bye sooner rather than later.
Ah, but in order to have made the statement quoted above, in that context, he, and who knows how many others, had obviously formed their opinions before she sank. Boxcab E50
I still buy from ebay everyday. I'm glad they make everybody take credit cards. screw that having to send a check to somebody. I want to pay as soon as I buy so my item can get shipped to me.
I still buy stuff occasionally but I quit selling on Ebay two years ago for the above listed reasons. I also don't trust their privacy policies.
So who is the SECOND most popular auction site? How do we buyers and sellers give them a boost so they can kick ebay's a**? Market economics rocks!
Online auction.com claims to be. But with only 66 items in the Model RR, Trains categories I'd hate to see No. 3. Could grow though. http://www.onlineauction.com/index.php?page=search:searchCategory&category_id=728 Ben
Bidville.com had a lot more listings than Online. But Bidville is now gone. When Yahoo had theirs, I know some folks who were doing very decently there. But they shut down. So,..... Boxcab E50
For me this is the best news I've heard in ages, unfortunate that these people are loosing their jobs but ebay has got too big and too greedy. The next best news I could hear would be ebay folding, I know I've had some good deals in the past but etailers are offering better deal. Funny thing is the last 4 things I won off ebay all contained letters from the seller roughly saying if you buy from my shop direct and don't use paypal you will get a discount. All my books I now sell on Amazon market place. We also used to have something similar to ebay about 8 years ago which was an online auction house here in the UK but can't for the life of me remember what it was called Shaun
