I have the chance to pick up one of these hard-to-find sets from a pal. New in box, never run. I was hoping to hear from anyone who has one for a "review" and any comments. Does it run well? I'll be running it under DCC... The only one I've ever seen was on a modular layout at a train show. Look passible on 11" curves ?? (I have a couple - trying to get rid of them). Thanx, Rick
I have not converted mine to DCC yet, but it runs great on DC. Never ran on anything less than 18", but 11" should not be a problem.
These are super smooth and quiet runners. I've run mine around a 12" radius test track with no problems but it sure looked bad. Looks best on 19" plus or at eye level. George
I have one. Haven't yet converted to DCC. Runs like a dream on DC. I have run it around 12 3/8" radius Unitrack. Cheers David
I have one and just won the 4th car off of ebay. Runs smooth but I only ran it a little bit. Next summer I will also be getting the twin headlight 1949 version too. Great train set!
I've had my three-car set since January 2006, and the fourth car since February 2007. It runs on DC and is the finest runner I have. Of course it helps that it picks up power from all wheels. I can't speak about curves tighter than about 16", but it looks fine around them.
I have one since Christmas 2005? whenever they 1st came out. I saw it in the display case, asked to see it run, and WOW! that sold me! First, it was a real smooth runner, 2nd all the lighting - inside and the marker lights, etc. and even the paint. The paint dosn't just look silver or gray, it looks a lot like stainless steal. It just looked like something really special, and it is. IMO it is the most impressive N scale train item I have ever seen. I just want to two of the "4th cars" that are sold seperately, but I do not want to pay $90-$100ea. for them. Yes I know, they never ran a 5 car train, only 3 & 4, but it's my railroad dang it!:tb-tongue:
