Hi Guys, We did several videos of our sound installed locos. Here is the Kato N Scale PRR E8 with LokSound. The frame was milled and other mods done to accept the the decoder and LokSound speakers. Headlamp also changed to White LED. We also rewieghted the loco back to the manufacturers weight after check out. With the new policy from LokSound to only provide decoder with generic sounds it gives the opportunity, while the project is open, to add lots of things to the sound project file. Hope you enjoy it. I will have more vids later this week. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPHA5F9SppY"]YouTube - N Scale Kato E8 Diesel[/ame]
Vince, Sounds good, i'm hopeing for a set of those E units from Santa. Btw, is thier anyway to add sound if you only run DC? Dave
Nice! The pressure is definitely beginning to grow for me to add sound to some of my fleet. I'm thinking of possibly my Kato E-L PA(s). I doubt if I could tell the difference between an Alco sound and an EMD sound as I've actually only heard EMD's and that was many years ago.
Sounds Very Good, Vince - especially for so compact a unit. Good representation of the non-turbo EMD prime mover (at least at low throttle). If the sounds seem as good to the EAR, this is a winner. Could the LOK-Sound be programmed to emulate a PA1/2 ? (which would be about the same size package with an ALCO motor sound.) Thanks for the demo ! Bob C.
Hi Bob, We do the Kato PA with the LokSound decoder. The Alco Diesel growl is much different compared to the EMD. Personally I like it best from a sound standpoint.
Yes, the ALCO 4-cycle is a whole different sound - an honorary steam engine - now to fit in a Seuthe that makes BLACK smoke !!! (30 years running diesels) Bob
For my budgetary planning, could you PM me with an idea of what the cost of the installation would be for a Kato PA1? Thanks!
The video is intriguing.... Up to now I am sure that I will not use decoders and sound in my models Even got the PCM E7s in plain DC. But listening to your model, the decision might be changed one day. Thank you for the video.
I can do you one better, Ive devised a way to install a tsunami into a kato E-8 and it sounds pretty awesome, I will be posting a youtube video soon. Dont get me wrong Im a huge fan of Loksound and I use the loksound micro often but I dont like the abrupt halt at the end of alot of the horns on some of the loksound files, and I wanted my pennsy E-8s to sound perfect.
